Job Seekers Allowance Question

I applied for this in early November 2008 and still no reply!! Should I bother going down at all? Beginning to think because they are long that I won't get paid.

Also, I'm a student on a year out...would they leave me to the bottom of the pile to get proper workers sorted first...was thinking that may be the problem. I've tried ringing the number all the time for the past few weeks, and they never reply...always rings out.

Plus, considering I'm a student on a year out, I was told I would be entitled to Job Seekers Allowance by the staff who helped me fill in the forms etc, I went to the interview and got all that sh1t sorted last November and got no insinuation that I wouldn't get it. But would I get the full rate as a student do you think? So any idea what the situation might be?

A person I know went into the office the same day as me (they are not a student though), and got all forms submitted at the same time. They got contacted 4 weeks ago and is now on the JSA...yet I'm still waiting and I went in the same time.

Any idea what the situation might be?

I think there is a back log of about three months now for some people. It's a pain that they never answer the phones. You should either go in to them or write them a letter and ask.

Being a student on a year out shouldn't make a difference.

I just have 2 more q's: (I'm waiting 14 weeks now for the Job Seekers Allowance)

    (i) Are students on a Gap year entitled to Job Seekers Allowance and the full rate of 204euro? I was told when my application was being done out by the secretary one that I would be...but could she have made a mistake?

(ii) I -have- to go away in May for 4 weeks...assuming I get the job seekers allowance before this date...can I go down to the dole office and ask them "I have to go away for 4 weeks, can you hold off payments until I come back and then resume payments??"...would they accept this??

Thanks in advance for any replies...

If you are on a gap year you are not in full time education and you are available for full time work, so yes you should be entitled to job seekers allowance.

You are entitled to a holiday of two weeks, but not four weeks. I don't know how you would get around that.
