Just been told in work that I will be required to work one full week and be off work the next week. Does anyone know if I will be entitled to claim social welfare for the week I will not be working?

If you work three days one week and two the next it will be more beneficial to you.

This way you can work, say, monday, tues and wed and get unemployment benefit (if you have been in full time employment up to now) for thursday and friday. Likewise the next week, claim unemployment benefit for monday and tuesday and wednesday and work thursday and friday.

If you do week on, week off (as you are thinking at the moment), you will end up with 26 contributions/stamps(you earn these for working) and 26 credits (you earn these from benefits). If you worked the way I have outlined above you will have 52 prsi contributions/stamps which will be more beneficial to you long term in terms of meeting criteria for certain benefits and pension purposes etc. Hope this makes sense.
