A quick guide to ebay?

Hi, could someone give me a quick run down on ebay?

I'm setting up an account and don't have time to read it all as I have to sell something pretty quickly. I intend to delve deeper into it later on

    So I've

    Set up an ebay account
Set up a pay pal account

Currently my pay pal is £0. Is that not linked to my bank or do I have to transfer money in,

    Also

Do I have to but something first before I can sell?

    Thanks

Link a credit card or transfer in money from a bank.

    You can sell straight away.

Cool thanks for moving, I didn't really know where to put it.

So I just enter my bank details and then can transfer money in. Does it cost anything?

Can I use it with my debit card?

I think you have to make the transfer from your account to the bank details they provide, but I've only ever used a credit card

How much would an item cost to list, VAT etc if it was £150. What would I come away with?

It's a pair of headphones btw in perfect condition

All the time you have spent posting here would be better spent on the eBay site where you could find out all this information. Try listing your item and you will find out how much it will cost to list - you don't even have to actually complete the listing to get this info. Then check eBay final value fees and you are ready to go. You just have to go for it. :)

PS Given that you obviously have only just signed up with eBay and therefore have a (0) feedback rating you may find it hard to attract bidders. It is always recommended that the best way to get started on eBay is to do some buying first to build up a bit of feedback.

Honestly dude, take a few minutes out and go here

Your time would be better spent there than having other people do the work for you....

By the time you've paid insertion fees, final value fees and paypal fees the answer is not as much as you hoped. If you put a "buy it now sale" on with a feedback of 0 nobody will buy from you. If you put in on "auction" style you need to start the bidding low to gain interest from buyers, the chances are you might sell the item for 20-30% of the expected value.

Start by buying a few items, see how the site works, how other sellers list their items etc. You need a good photograph, preferably of the actual item not one copied off the internet, this proves at least you have the item in your possession. Weigh it in the packaging and price it genuinely as far as postage is concerned, nothing puts people off buying more than rip off postage.

I've used Ebay since 2002 as a buyer and seller and it ain't easy to make money.

Between paypal fees, listing fees and final valuation fees ebay seems to make more money than me (and it doesn't have to pay for postage or envelopes either)

It's pretty tough to make decent money out of it. :o

It is possible to make money on eBay but the bas....rds are killing the goose that laid the golden egg and it sure isn't the site it once was but nobody is listening. :(
