    hi folks,

I was wondering if i did a Diploma in Psychology (conversion for postgraduates) with the Open University and then continued on to do a masters....Can I then apply to do Counselling Psychology in Trinity? and are courses with OU recognised with PSI?

    Thanks.

Yes and yes. The OU course is BPS recognised, and the PSI recognise all BPS courses.

    OU recognised, Oscail is not.

I was told that half the Psychologists with the National Counselling Service are OU people who have come through TCD Masters in Counselling Psychology after the Dip in Psychology or Psychology degree with the OU - stands to reason as counselling psychology is really a mature/2nd career move.

Btw, the course at TCD is now a Doctorate - 3 year full-time programme. I think the fees could be €10k per year..worth sussing out. It's one thing to get your Psychology Dip part-time but can you do a full-time course over 3 years.

The course at Trinity looks for good quality work expereince/voluntray experience, so as in all things, meeting the academic entry requirements is only part of thr story.

Thanks for the replys. Another few questions if one was to do a course such as a Diploma In Counselling and Psychotherapy which is accrediated and therefore one would have experience in counselling would this be relevant experience?
And is the Counselling Pyschology recognised with IACP or IAAAC ?

In fact what is the difference between the counselling psychology in TCD and accrediated courses? Obviously the price and lenght of time but are you not qualified to do the same thing.... Or is the difference that a Counselling Psychologist can diagnose disorders?:confused: sorry, i am getting confused.

counsellors don't/can't diagnose psychiatric disorders. Only a psychiatrist can do that.
