Sorting in iTunes

    Hey guys,
Added an album to iTunes today. iTunes takes control of the order of the tracks and whacks them out of shape. It's listing track 8 in the first spot followed by 11,7,14,12 etc... Really annoying. This happens every time I add an album. I decided enough was enough and I went about looking at sorting options in iTunes.

I added 'Track#' as a view option to my library list but clicking this sorts the entire library and not just single albums. So basically I have about a #1's followed by a hundred #2's, etc.

I can't figure out how to sort the tracks in the order they're meant to be in for each individual album.

Any ideas on how this is achieved? Cheers.

put the album into a seperate playlist and then sort by song number, that will do the trick

Hi Grumpy, but I don't want to put it into a playlist. I don't see why I should have to do that. It's a simple thing to want to order your tracks in the same order they appear on the CD. If I go and make a playlist for this album, I will have to do it for about 200 other albums too.

Making a playlist will fix the problem but it's not a logical fix for the long run.

I've had iTunes do all kinds of crazy crap like that with some of my albums - check that all the info in the tags is exactly the same for groupings like album artist, genre, etc that should be common. Even when ripping my own CDs, the info pulled is not always uniform for all tracks... Another thing that might work is to add in the "of xx" info, so each track is "1 of 11", "2 of 11", etc. Also bear in mind that sometimes even after you make these changes, the order is still screwed up but if you remove the album from the library and then re-import it, it sorts itself out.

I've been using a little app called Musorg to fix my tags (does file names as well which can't be done with iTunes on existing files) and then import everything into iTunes - works much better in most cases:

click arrange by track # (so its a big list of #1, #2 etc) then click arrange by artist, then click arrange by album.

thats the way i did mine so i have them in alphabetical order of artist, then alphabetical by album of that artist, then by track

    Perfect that worked a charm.

The way I like to have my iTunes setup is to have the most recently added album at the beginning of the library. Unfortunately it seems that clicking Date Added rather than Album in the order you posted doesn't keep the most recently added album at the top in the correct track listing.

For that kind of customisation, it looks like I will have to use the Recently Added Playlist which I can live it.

    Thanks again, Adam.
