Renewing drivers lic, 70 yr old Dad

My dad is approaching 70. He currently drives in Ireland with a UK licence which would need renewal on/at 70.

Can he exchange his licence for an Irish one before he hits 70 and basically get a 10 year Irish licence without having to take a medical?

My father doesn't drive past a two mile radius of the house and they live properly out in the sticks in Kerry. My mother is worried that perhaps he mightn't pass a medical as he had a heartattack in the past. Losing his licence would be pretty devestating to him (ability to go to the shop, check on the farm etc) and I suppose my mother to having to cart the whingy fellow about :)

I've looked at This here and it seems to suggest he can now apply to exchange his licence and can get a 10 year one. Can anyone possibly confirm that it's possible without the medical?

Check out section D of the application form D401, your father will need a medical report when he is over 70.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Aha. Cheers, couldnt find that form.

He is currently under 70 but that means at best only a 3 year DL.

    Cheers.
