Freeview (UK OR DTT) in Cavan?

    Hi folks

I've bought a house in Virginia, Cavan. I've had a satellite dish installed to get the FTA channels but am wondering if anyone can tell me whether the UK Freeview service is available in the area, and whether a DTT signal can be picked up there?

I don't want to go to the hassle of getting an arial installed if reception isn't available and while there are loads of arials in the estate I don't know whether they're analogue or digital, and none of my immediate neighbours have one so I can't really ask.

Anyone here from that area who could advise?

    I appreciate any help, thanks.

A aerial doesn't care about the content and is receiving both analogue and digital simultaniously.
If there are aerials installed at your house connect the RF input of your tv to the next tv point and do a automatic scan. You can then roughly calculate from the receivable analogue channels what could be possible for uk freeview and irish dtt.

OP said there is no aerial installed.

OP, can you tell me in which direction the aerials are pointing? Virginia could get signals from two places, depending on your location in the town.

North or North West would indicate Brougher Mountain in Fermanagh, while North East would indicate Divis, Belfast.

My parents live just out of Cavan Town and the Freeview reception is atrocious with very few channels picked up, even though the analogue reception on the four UK channels is perfect. I wonder would Virginia be too far away to get a digital signal at all.

Afaik it's Brougher but I'll check next time I'm down there (in Dublin at the mo). Thanks for your help.

If you can wait full power is not up yet on digital mux, when it is signal will be as strong as analogue. expected switchover in N.I. is 2011.:D

So how far south (along the east) will the freeview signal eventually get do you reckon?
