how can i tell what generation my ipod is? i know it's either 1 or 2, but i'm not 100% sure. The reason i ask is that i've found a docking station i really like but it charges first generation ipods (which is what i need as the battery life on a first or second generation ipod is like 2 hours max) but not second generation, which it can only play. The obvious answer is to try it i know but these speakers are not available in ireland.

The Ipod Wiki page should have all the info you need. Just look at the pics or compare the specs etc to your one.

Gen 1 had a moving (mechanical) wheel

Gen 2 had a touch sensitive wheel
