Majority of threads here seem to be about DoW2 but I was wondering if anybody still played Dark Crusade? I still play it all the time online.

I do, i am not even going to buy DoWII untill there is expansions, 4 armies is a joke! i was expecting all the armies from the last ones plus tyranids (which a made an unofficial mod for in dark crusade )

I picked up DoW1 with the 3 expansion packs a while ago for €35 in Gamestop. Gotta say Im loving it. Played through DoW1, Winter Assault (as Chaos) and currently campaigning through Dark Crusade (as Space Marines). Havent played Soulstorm yet. Hopefully by the time I do all the campaigns an expansion for DoW2 will be out and I can pick the lot up in one go.

I recommend the tau for your first play of soulstorm, the most fun imo.

    SoB and DE suck ass.

Personally I'd recommend Necro but I got a fetish for big teleporting cannons of doom :D. Word of warning though do NOT try to go with auto resolution when attacked. Even with every unit bought, maxed out base AND being higher defence value then the offence the default resolution always lost for me anyway.

To true, SoB can be made to work but DE is simply a case of hitting yourself on your genitals with a ball hammer over and over again when you play.

Oh and Galv DoW2 is very different from DoW1 series, make sure you try the demo before you pick it up.

Necrons wouldn't be an ideal race to start out with, since their resource system is completely different from the majority of races in the game. That and other things like not benefiting from cover and having higher accuracy with Fire on the Move, etc, unlike other races. Best to be bogged down by that information at a later date.

I'd recommend starting out with Space Marines. They're one of the more all-round balanced out races, especially in Soulstorm, having a variety of units best suited for close combat and ranged combat. I'd then recommend moving on to Chaos, Eldar, Imperial Guard, Tau and then trying out the races that have their own unique features, like Orks, Necrons, Sisters of Battle, and Dark Eldar.

I'm playing through SS as Tau... I've done it as necrons, SOB, and dark eldar. Online isn't so bad but finding games is hard. A lot of russians on it I think

Yeah, so I'm told. Is there a downloadable demo on the official site?

Auto resolve is for cowards anyhow.

Not always, sometimes I can't be arsed! I'm doing the DC campaign on hard with Chaos and the IG just took over the Ork stronghold. They're right next to my territory and keep attacking it everytime, it's a pain in the arse.

I'm playing the Tau in Campaign mode but I keep getting an ass kicked..How do you get enough requisition points to form a decent Army( Or is that how you do it) before I get destroyed ..Its only a matter of minutes before I get attacked by superior numbers:confused:

Ok, you need to tell me how you are spending first before i can set you on the right path.

Basically your best units are firewarriors, en masse.

Use a few XV15s to take strategic points early. Then research is the key as higher level Tau are not as important as other races high level units. Skip missile barrage until last. and focus on increasing your firewarrior power. You also must build the Kauyon command post for the advanced research.

    Tactics:
2 fully reinforced path finders take point "STAND GROUND" tactic is of utmost importance.
As many Firewarrior squads as you can behind them at a bit of a distance. Also the eatherals Shas'ui Bodyguard are an elite firewarrior squad with massive Range "unlimited amount of these troops glitch in DC"

The reason for ths is firewarriors use an optical relay of some sorts with takes data from all other tau on the field but also imits their own visual range. Pathfinders are equipped with scout gear which allows them to relay advanced battlefield data to the firewarriors who have an extraordinary range.
Using this tactic can mean that your firewarriors can mow down 100 enemy troops before they can even see where the bullets are coming from.

Edit: If the enemy retreat and you are finding advancing very slow using this tactic. Send in 4 Krootox and the Greater Gnarloc. They can destroy a horrific amount of troops and buildings for their size, strength and health. Before my Gnarloc took out a squiggoth single handedly.

Thanks Man, I'll try that..I'm making generators then making firewarriors and sending them to points to gain requestion points..I'll get back to you and let you know how I get on..Thanks;):)

Just finished my first DC campaign with the Space Marines. FOR THE EMPEROR! etc.

Normal difficulty, because I suck at rts :)

So I'm torn, do I play DC again with a different race, or start Soulstorm with the space marines again? I really like those guys.
