The best way is a plastic poultry crate.

I have one of each, the three door one is the best. I have had it for seven years I think and still as good as new.

how may do you think you would fit in the 3 door
    dimensions: 95x56x27cm

Would you have to cover it with a blanket or something? Can you put hens and cocks in together?

Yes you can put hens and cocks in together. I wouldnt cover them with a blanket. The birds will over heat and it can result in birds dying. Be worth your while stopping for 15 or 20 min and opening the doors of the van just to let the air through. Learned that one the hard way.

I get about 22 or 23 8 week old poults in mine so I would say you will get 16 or seventeen adults. The other three could go into a cloth sack or similar. I wouldn't put the blanket on them. It will be dark enough in the back of the caddy to keep them quiet do allow them fresh air so they don't overheat. If your not in a rush for your crate you could wait until the Moira game fair in early summer. They will bring it over with them so you won't have to pay postage. Thats what I did.
I don't know anybody at home doing them but Im sure there has to be somewhere!

    Cheers,

I have the solway and they are sturdy, picked them up at a fair. Got a few more through the classifieds in the Farmers Journal.
