Mini-pill worries...

OK quick history, I became sexually active last autumn and went on the pill for three months (combined pill), doctor then switched me over to the mini-pill (Cerazette) and I'm over halfway through my second pack.

I'm a worrier by nature and have been extremely careful as regards contraception - I barely let my boyfriend touch me until I was on the pill, and he also uses condoms. As far as I'm concerned we're being as safe as possible. Yet I'm constantly worried about getting pregnant. I know it's not impossible to fall pregnant even while using the methods I'm using, but it's still a long shot. But I just can't stop worrying. I was so relieved each time I got my period while on the combined pill! It was like peace of mind, or something.

Now that I'm on the mini-pill it looks like I've lost that peace of mind! My doctor told me that I wouldn't have periods while on Cerazette, yet other research I've done tells me that I will, albeit lighter and/or irregularly. I had one when I was three weeks into my first pack, i.e. the same time of month I'd usually have it while on the combined pill. So this month I don't know what to expect! If my period is late I'll be worried sick....but it could just be normal for someone on the mini-pill!

How can I stop myself worrying like this? I'm concerned it will affect my relationship (and my stress levels!!). And if anyone has and mini-pill/period tales, do tell. Thanks for reading.

PS Going back on the combined pill is not an option at the moment.

  • I'm in exactly the same situation, paranoia and all. I haven't had a period since I started Cerazette. If you're using condoms as well the chances really are incredibly low. You could also take a pregnancy test if you're really worried, but obviously that'd get expensive on a regular basis. I know what you mean about losing the 'peace of mind', it really is annoying!

Not trying to be smart here but if you are that worried could you just abstain from having sex until you go back onto the pill you were more comfortable with?

Not very realistic. I can see where you're coming from...but no. Even me in my paranoid state knows that that's just a bit over the top!
