I'd be really really grateful for any advice anyone can give me. Firstly I'm not looking for anyone to tell me if I'm pregnant or not because I know that's impossible to say but just want to see if there could be a reason for this. After sex about two weeks ago my boyfriend noticed the condom was split, I freaked out and went the next day to get the morning after pill. We have regular sex but this was the only time something went wrong (that we know of) My period was due today and last night I got a small bit of bleeding and what felt like mild period pain starting, I was so relieved. But now there's nothing?! No pain, no blood, nothing?! I'm only 19 and I'm terrified I could be pregnant.. Could the pill have effected the period? Does any bleeding mean your not pregnant?

Really grateful for any advice x

Take a pregnancy test in the morning, thats when the higest level of HCG is, your first urine in the morning. I think first responce are saying that it will show up to four days before your missed period so if you are due today it may have an indciation. If not go to your docs. How many days after the condom split did you take the pill? The effectivness decreases each day you wait. Hope it all works out for you.

After taking the morning after pill usually you get a little bit of ''spotting'' or a mini period or else none at all untill the following month.
I would say what your experiencing is a side effect.
But definitely do a test to be sure!
    Best of luck

The morning after pill is a high dose of hormones OP so consequently will effect your normal menstrual bleeding. There is no template for this unfortunately, it can result in a lighter bleed or a heavier bleed or delay your period or bring it on early. Try not to worry, I'm sure you will be fine. Leave it a couple of days and then do a test. If you took the MAP as instructed and used precautions afterwards you should hopefully have nothing to worry about.

get a test and ease your mind, but its more than likely the effect of the morning after pill.

if i were you i would use double contraception - condoms and the pill. this way = no worries in future and no big dose of hormones all at once.

I took it the next day. The doctor did say it could effect my period, and I've tried not to think about it because I know worrying can effect it too. It's the fact that I was so relieved last night and now all of a sudden nothings happening that's bothering me now..

The really ironic thing is I'm due to go to the doctor when my period starts to start getting that contraceptive injection which you get every 12 weeks, because I decided after the condom split that I wanted to be safer and talked about it with the doc when i got the MAP. It'll be horrible if it turns out I made that decision a month too late..

You sound really distressed about this, and I do think you are probably (99.99%) worrying unnecessarily. I had to take the MAP recently and as the posters above said, it can affect your period - cause light spotting / missed period / heavy bleeding.

    Hi
I know its very easy to say but try not to worry.
The MAP has probably thrown your cycle out - thats all.
Just be extra careful until you know where you stand.
Also congrats on having such a responsible attitute to contraception.
I get pregnant myself at 19 and its not the easiest road to take.

On a side note though, have you looked into the injection you intend to get? If its the Depo Provera, do plenty of research. Terrible side effects and very scary stories. Google it.

Good luck - hope all works out for you.

The MAP will throw your cycle out a bit because of all the hormones. If you took it correctly it's probably fine. If in doubt, just go back to your doctor and take a test.

If you took the morning after pill within 24 hours you are more than likely fine.

wel if you want to hear a really stupid story:

i had my period and then 7 days later condom slipped off during sex so went and got the morning after pill and took it as directed [albeit at 36 hours after the deed!] anyway i had brown spotting about a week earlier than my period shoudl have been, but then it appeared it was my period as it lsated similar amount of days. I did a lot of reserach and apparently this is a side effect of the map. however me and my bf had another accident [condom slpped off again] but didnt go for map this time. hopeing again hope am not pregers. ironic thing also is that i have the pill bought but didnt start it as didnt think twas my period last time so am waiting til next time. ltes hope there is a next time :(
