Can I use my Sky dish??

I just got rid of Sky+ for various reasons and, obviously, I still have the dish and cables on my roof. I was wondering if it is possible to use the dish to pull in any FTA channels.

I've already connected the wires to a TV with a Freeview tuner in it but it said that there was no signal. Do Sky disable their LNB or am I doing something wrong?

Would a different LNB make a difference and if it would - what kind of channels would I recieve. (I'm in Dublin)

    Cheers

You can use a freesat or free to air satellite box. Freeview does not work because its not satellite its UK terrestrial

Edit: forgot to mention you can also use a sky box as my friend below points out:-)

I don't suppose you bothered to keep your sky box by any chance? If so, well it will happily receive bbc 1-4, itv 1-4, C4, E4, More 4, Film 4, C5..... and lots more, all FTA. Just plug it back in and read the sticky at the top of this forum.

Channel five is only available via 'other channels' on the Sky digibox :(

So are the ITV's, channel 4, possibly E4 and More 4's on an Irish epg'd sky box! If its a UK epg'd box your 3/4's the way there!

Nice one gents - I hooked up the old boxes and took the cards out. Loads of freebies available.

Just by the by - I don't suppose it's possible to view any of the stuff still recorded on the Sky+? Would I need to take out the hard drive and hook it up to the PC?

Afraid not as it records the encrypted data stream.
