    Hello All!

My girlfriend and I intend to spend one week of our summer holidays somewhere on the Algarve. We are not into pub/club scene or all day beach.
We want somewhere close to historical sights or general places of interest. A nice small beach would be a bonus too.

Can anyone recommed a place that the have stayed in?

We will be travelling by bus from Seville to Faro......

    Thanks,
    Conor

Been to Praia de Rocha twice. Nicest beach on the Algarve and the town is fairly quite, you can make it as mad or as quite as you like. Have a look at the Algarve casino hotel as a place to stay or the Jupiter.

Have been in Praia da Rocha aswell. Beautiful beach and thats where it stops in my opinion.
Absolutely nothing going on there and very high rise and bars very tacky and commercialised .
.Albufeira might suit your needs better .Old cobbled streets and lots of Tavernas and cafes.Newer area called Montechero only a few minutes taxi ride or nice coastal walk. Not really sure about historical sights but might be worth checking out the area.

algarve doesn't really do historial sites, what algarve does is bar/clubs, high rise apartments and sandy beaches in the main, they are a few places but you really have to seek them out

if you want real historial head to lisbon, its about 3hr bus journey from faro

Silves, a Moorish Castle dating back to the 11th century, and the 12th century Cathedral. There's a museum near the castle as well.

Monchique, a typical village located in a scenic range of rounded hills where you can shop for local handicrafts.

Lagos, a town linked to the Portuguese Discoveries. Join a guided visit of the Antonine Museum within the Golden Chapel of St. Anthony, the slave market and the statue of Prince Henry the Navigator

I saw these last year in a couple of days in a hire car, I'm sure you could get a guided tour if you asked at one of the kiosks dotted around the tourist areas. There is also a sandsculpture museum just down the road from the Zoomarine ( which is also worth seeing )

Praia de Rocha is a but tacky to be honest even though I loved it there when I went with my mates.

There's a lovely place called Alvor that I went to with my OH that would be right up your street. Lots of places to Eat nice Beach, Not a pub scene at all.

Ask your travel agent or look it up.

Lagos is lovely. Hundreds of restaurants and some nice bars too. Would recommend the Marina Club at the marina. We went with Sunworld Holidays.

There are also lovely beaches there. It's a nice place for couples I have to say.

You should try Tavira OP. It's a lovely town with a fair bit of history near the border with Spain. There's a fabulous selection of restaurants and really cheap beer all over. A good place to stay would be the Tavira Inn which has a swimming pool and is about 5 min walk from the centre. The nearest beach is on an island, about 2km from the town but there's a regular ferry service in season so it's easily accessible.
