    Hi All

Two quick Ash Wednesday questions -

What is the reason for not being allowed to eat meat on Ash Wednesday?

What is the punishment/consequence for those who do eat meat on Ash Wednesday?

AFAIK it only applies to the RCC. I think it's just a tradition to remind adherents what Jesus did for us. In olden times people used not eat meat on Fridays for the same reason.

I suppose if they are practicing Catholics the consequence is that they might feel regret, say sorry and perhaps make a little offering in the future to show their love for God. If they aren't practicing Catholics I don't see what the effects could be.

Well I've begun an experiment. I ate a lot of meat today. Let's see what happens.
