Good Car Buying Experience??

With all the bad experiences people have had with Motor Dealers (Main or Indy), I thought it would be nice to hear if any one has had a good buying experience. Nothing to do with your brand of choice because lets be honest the dealer isn't responsible for manufacturing the cars.

I know for legal reasons we don't name and shame the bad ones but surely it would be ok to name the good ones.

Both of my last car purchases were pretty painless. In one case I found a Kangoo I wanted on Carzone, rang the dealer to confirm that he'd look at my trade-in, drove over, looked at his car, let him drive my Seicento Sporting, sat down and quickly agreed a price which was near what I expected from looking at prices on-line. All done in an hour or so, picked up the car the following day.

Just for your information, he called me four months later to ask something about my trade-in: it took him that long to sell it.

The most recent purchase was an S-Max bought new. The salesguy didn't move much on price, but he did take a 7 year old Multipla on its last legs off me, and pointed out that we didn't need the Titanium spec: we could save a few bob by buying a Zetec and upgrading the stereo to the same as the Titanium job. He didn't have to do that.

He also warned us off the Kelp Green colour, as he said it'd be worth €1500 less at trade-in time, which he didn't have to do either. I didn't like it that much.

I've bought two new cars in the past two years, a Subaru and a BMW (for my mother). In both cases, the salesmen were courteous, and very easy to deal with. The BMW sales guy even went to the trouble of leaving a bouquet of flowers in the car, as it was being delivered on Valentines day. One thing I did find, however, was that neither was familiar with the finer points of their cars. The Subaru salesman had to look in a car to see whether they came with VSC as standard, and the BMW guy didn't know whether the optional adaptive headlights had HID on both dips & high beam. Had either of them read the brochures they handed out to customers then they would have known the answers to these questions.
