Grants for New Build

    Hi guys,

I apologise in advance if I have posted this in the wrong place.

I've been on here for the past year as we were building & found this forum invaluable. We as many other have gone to alot of effort & money to make the house as efficient as possible.
I'm looking to see if there are any grants left to people building new homes.
From what I can see they have scrapped all the grants for new builds and moved them to existing houses only.

We have a gas condensing boiler / solar / our own well / piles of insulation but it looks like I can't get a grant for any of these as it's a new build.

I'm in the Meath area and I'd appreciate any feedback on this.

I understand your frustration, but as I understand it, most if not all of the items you have listed above are now required by the current building regs.

The logic of the grants is that owners of existing houses to which the new more stringent rules didn't apply can't be forced to upgrade them to meet the new regs, so the grant is to encourage them to do work to go some way towards meeting current standards. This will have two effects: it will save energy / reduce CO2 emissions and it will give work to the construction sector which is on its knees right now.

So, you don't get a grant because you are already obliged by the new regs to do what you're doing. You might think that's unfair, but I suppose owners of existing homes built over the last couple of decades might feel it is unfair that the building industry was let away by the government with building a huge number of houses to a very poor standard of energy efficiency, when it could and should have been done right in the first place . . .

    Thanks for the replys guys.

I had a feeling all the new build stuff was taken away.....
I'm ok with the solar/boiler but the water is frustrating - I mean why would a new build not be entitled to water treatment for their well?

From what I can read on the meath cc webpage you can't get a grant for water treatment unless the house is at least 7 years old.

I guess I need to get used to the budget spiralling out of control !!
At least we're coming towards the end.

Thanks for all the help guys.
