    Hi guys,
Apologies if something similar has been posted before. I'm on a provicial license and have been taking driving lessons. I am going to buy my first car from the north cos of the value up there compared to the south. I will be going up with my dad and my best mate who are both fully licensed and insured drivers. I'm just thinking how can we bring the car back down south? I was thinking the best way would be to get either my dad or my mate to drive it back down?? Would one of them have to arrange for their insurance company to insure them to drive my car for one day? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Best of luck with the purchase.

Ya whoever will be driving the car should get their own car insurance changed over to the car that you are purchasing.Otherwise the car you are purchasing would only be covered for 3rd party. It depends on the drivers insurance policy really.

Best solution imo is to have the fully licensed driver who will be driving the car south temperarily transfer their own insurance to the new car until you get home as learner drivers are not allowed drive on motorways north or south of the border afaik.

More than that, a learner driver from the Republic isn't allowed to drive anywhere apart from in the Republic, motorway or otherwise.

The driver of the new car should be able to add a car temporarily to their policy. I've done it quite a few times and it cost me £16 per week each time.
