Time to De-Grease the "HamCaf"

I had the dis-pleasure of going to the Hamilton Cafe this afternoon for lunch.

I had one look at the steam rising off the "beef" burgers (on pancake Tuesday I might add!), turned on my heel (taking care not to slip on the permanent layer of grease on absolutely everything in the "HamCaf", including the cutlery) and walked out. I made it to the Dining Hall and thank God, they had pancakes -- for a couple of minutes in the queue I had resigned myself to the idea that the College Catering Department had succumbed to modernist secularism by insisting on serving up beefburgers and chicken tika masala on pancake Tuesday. Fair play to them all the same.

The only thing was the annoying engineering undergrads who plonked themselves down beside me and insisted on talking absolute ****e (not to mention eating off their trays like inmates).

Never again will I set foot in that HamCafe. The sushi looks nice, but it's simply not filling enough for an aging man such as myself. It's no wonder the Japanese live so long.

There is nothing wrong with the Ham Cafe for some one who wants something to eat rather than some one who is cosntanly looking for fault or cause a fuss

Or to do a "presentation" in complete and utter silence.

If someone shoved a brick up your arse minus the lube, you'd be outraged to.

Wait wait wait, is there something in the bible that says everyone has to eat pancakes on pancake tuesday? 'Cause I don't see how secularism has anything to do with a lack of pancakes.

I generally avoid the hamilton café as I don't like the kind of food they serve, I might suggest you do the same. (JCR is fairly greaseless, unless you order a Dead Pig.)

Also... LiamD, not helpful. Or constructive. Or anything, really.

I think Cantab. has tongue in cheek, as often happens, and the pancakes thing was light-hearted rather than a culinary recommendation - nobody would actually want to eat greasy pancakes.

Arent all the cafes supplied with the same food?

Well, I don't know what the food is like when it's supplied, but I prefer the output of other food places. That said, I don't have a wealth of experience with the Ham Café, I don't feel terribly robbed.

You should have seen what I cooked last night

I think best case scenario here is Gordon Ramsay flies in and does an episode of "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares" in the HamCaf. :) Advantages of this include seeing just how greasy the place is and getting a new shiny place to eat!

    True though.

Note to Cantab; anything you say, regardless of validity will most likely be dismissed, you should have probably figured it out by now............

You need to get off boards and get back to your job, punk.

There's nothing wrong with expecting tasty, cheap and nutritous brain food in college. Students want nice spaces to gather outside of class.

It sounds like LiamD has been spending more time in the Hamilton toilets than the cafe...
