Do Nintendo get on with MS/Sony?

Not that knowledgeable about gaming these days (gave up on gaming many years ago, and only ever pick up the GTA games when they get released).

Anyway, I was just wondering, how do Nintendo view Sony and Microsoft? I always hear people whinging about how sony and Microsoft are doing this, that and the other to out-do each other, but rarely hear about Nintendo.

Are they on good terms with both companies? Do MS/Sony despise Nintendo?

If an "Ultimate SNES Collection" came out tomorrow, would it be a Wii exclusive, or would it go across all three consoles?

    Curiousity :)

well amazing thing about it,back in the early 90s,nintendo did commision sony to produce a cd drive for their snes, nintendo then pulled out at the last minute, then sony kept its technology years later to produce the playstation, the rest is history, even the playstation took the final fantasy franchise off the then dominate nintendo at time

Sony/MS don't necessarily get on with Nintendo. In fact, as strange as it may have sounded only a few years ago, they both probably envy Nintendo at this stage since Nintendo have completely gobbled up the mainstream market and are making buckets of money! (Bad news for hardcore nintendo fans like me unfortunately)

But a snes compilation will never appear on anything other than a nintendo console. Nintendo are too proud to do a sega.

according to interviews done in reto gamer mag, nintendo are basically akward to work with, developers had spoken about having to pay a licence to produce a game on snes/nes,then having to get nintendos approval to release the produce, along with the cost of produceing a cart, sony was more flexiable at time

At a guess they all respect each other, and their products.
They all seem to be eyeing up new breakthroughs by each other and playing keep up, motion control on Wii, motion control follows on PS3, Buzz on PS2, a buzzer set get released on the 360 and so on.

There may be that bit more competition between Sony and Ninty as they are rival japanese corporations, whilst Microsoft is a gaijin yankee pretender to the throne.

The bulk of the tit for tat coments that seem to feature on forums and press is really to galavanise weaker minded people, fanboys to you and me.
These morons slavishly believe that everything about their chosen console is the best whilst everything about everything else is lame.
They are the saddest of the sad with no real valid opinion on anything, forgetting it's all about the games, regardless of format and that a format is only as strong as the games released upon it.

An "Ultimate Snes Collection" would only ever appear on Nintendo hardware, but, if Nintendo ever did a Sega and get out of the hardware game to concentrate on software then it would appear on every available format, just like the Megadrive collection currently doing the rounds.

I've got more Megadrive collections on GBA, Saturn, PS2 just to name a few, not to mention the plug into tv joysticks with built in games.

That was a hangover from the NES days. It basically saved the console industry and made them the clear leaders in the 8-bit era since they promised great software since they reviewed all games. The license thing however was very nasty by them, some of the restrictions they placed were there to gaurantee developers made a good high selling game otherwise they would lose a lot of money. They should have scrapped this in the 16-bit era.

Sony on the other hand only demanded a small license fee and gave out development kits well before release which were a joy to develop for. Nintendo didn't finalise the hardware of the N64 until very close to release and only gave dev kits to favoured developers. They were a nightmare to use because they needed a big bulky Silicon Graphics machine to develop on them convert to an N64 machine and tweak anything that went wrong.

They learnt their lesson too little too late with the Gamecube.

never say never, way things are going and recent news i hearing of midway going bankrupt and sega closeing centres/arcades,nintendo might pull together and do an parthernship with someone and rerelease games on other formats, although with most of games coming on the wii it seems unlikely

well there no were near as bad as sony and MS are ,they hate eachother, or at least there fan boys hate each other ,

the wii is targeted at a different market then sony/MS so they take no notice of each other

Not a chance of that happening any time soon. Nintendo are rolling in the money. Midway were also on the brink of closing for the last 5 years.

Nintendo have said that they are going their own way as they believe that increased power and graphics is not the best way to innovate gaming (and increase market share) so far in financial terms they are right.

Basically by releasing the Wii which is essentially two gamecubes stuck together and not truly next generation they have stepped out of the space race that MS and Sony are so stuck into.

I'm a Wi owner and I love it for many reasons (I'm a bit of a ninty Fanboy) but the lack of power under the hood is sometimes disappointing and I occasionally wish there was a little bit more there for developers to play with. Imagine how Zelda or Metroid Prime would look running in full HD with all the detail and power something like the PS3 would have.

Equally imagine how awesome the PS3 would be if Nintendo were developing for it!

Edit: Forgot to mention that the only market where Nintendo really consider themselves to be in competiton with the others is the Japanese Handheld market where in monthly sales the DS and PSP are very close to the best of my knowledge.
