Classic car swap site / forum / thing...

The one thing that always strikes me about classic car people is that the cars are often for sale and that there is something about owning 30 year old cars that brings out our inner Aurther Daley...

But with it being such a buyers market out there it can be hard to shift one car on ready to buy the next one. And - as it happens - in the last couple of weeks I offered a swap for my Elan for a Jag XJS and was offered a swap (by someone else) for a Daimler V8.

Now there are plenty of places to advertise your car for sale but I haven't seen many places where you could offer to trade / swap. Do you think it's something that people would be interested in? Would a thread on here be popular or would it be against charter?

Anyone for a 1982 Renault 5 GTL . 60,000 odd miles and to tell you the truth I havent seen or driven it in over a year and a half. 4 brand new dunlop 135 x 13 tyres fitted just before it got parked up. Local mechanic did a bit of work on her just before she got parked and to tell you the truth I dont know whats been done. Drives fantastic for what its worth. Needs a full respray but its not a shed.....Really. Not looking to swap for another car by the way but lets see what ye have....

    Sounds like a great idea.
    Been through a Capri phase.
Now have a decent Rover P6B.
Still, as a classic fan with little money & even less shed space, it would be nice to be able to own/drive as many classics as possible.

    Anybody got a nice Merc/Stag/Borgward etc?

    Cool :)

I've got a 1968 Lotus Elan+2, 96k miles and just had €1,100 spent on it in the classic car workshop in Killaloe. Work included new rev limiting rotor arm, distributor cap, leads, starter solenoid, rebuilt master and slave clutch cylinders, new rocker cover gasket, rebuilding the carbs and a couple of other odds and sods. Fully galvanised replacement chassis and 30 years of history including photos of full restoration back in the 80s.

There are bits and pieces still to do (it's a classic, there are always bits and pieces still to do) but would be up for a swap or swap plus cash either direction.

Interested in 60's and 70's cars, especially Mercs, Beemers, Jags, Porsches and the like :)

Hold on till I see how much this LT is gonna cost. I need a few other bits... And with a jump start it will drive away. It drove to its current resting place and was on the button at the time.

I'll swap you mine. I need cash too, though. Like about €10M !

Interesting thread. I'd be interested in swaps - but only for a weekend, tbh. Wonder if that would be a runner...

A classic car club with a selection of classics that you could join for a fee like in the UK, and book your car for a weekend or week. It could work if everyone played fair.
