A 71 year old man from Ormskirk in Lancashire has been found guilty on two counts of dangerous skating.

The court was shown CCTV footage of Geoff Dornan rollerblading down the main street of Southport in Merseyside.

    Nick Ravenscroft was in court.

The poor old boy was given nearly £2000 in fines, I don't know about you but I think this is disgusting carry on. leave the man off if he wants to skate about.

I'm 26 and I can't skate to save my life, fair play to him.

What does everyone else think of this?

Come on now, non skating means non skating. Fine was a bit much though.

Some grand pa's dispense Werther's Original while others barrel roll off your mothers car. Interesting times we live in.

Why does it mean non skating? his taxes probably paid to build that walk way and have paid for its upkeep through the years, why can't he use them in a way that he see's fit? why do these laws exist? he was moving forward, he has a clear view of whats ahead and he wasn't in anyones way.

More than 200 people get killed every year in england from choking on food, how many get killed by being hit by roller bladers? (i'm not saying skaters don't break themselves up i'm asking about innocent bystanders) i cant find actual numbers for that, but i doubt many do at all.

If i am right and eating is more dangerous than someone near you rollerblading, then you should be able to do that in public. just the same as you can serve someone food that might kill them by choking in public.

I think the part were he was roller blading on the main street probably did it for him.

Dangerous skating? Was he on thin ice?

I hate positive discrimination and am therefore very much in favour of the court :)

How many teens in a week will ride up and down on the footpaths on skateboards and bikes without as much as a warning ?

The man was doing something that he enjoyed ,kept him fit and was fun .

In 1960s Ireland / UK he would have being seen as a fun excentric .

But in these serious times he is deemed a danger to public safety when in reality it's probably just some jobsworth in a council job exercising his / her power over little people having some fun in their lives .

Hope he finds someplace else to go skating
