Possible to Force Windows XP to Use Cabled Internet instead of Wireless?

    Hello,

My Samsung NC10, like most laptops has both ethernet and wireless connectivity.

When I'm doing downloading I prefer to have it connected to my modem/router via a network cable as it is faster and more stable.

However if I have both the wireless and wired enabled Windows Xp SP3 seems to just use the wireless connection.

Is there a simple way to have it that both are on but the wired connection is used instead of the wireless when both are available.

As it is I have to disable the wireless every time I plug in the network cable and re-enable it every time I want to go wireless.

Its not the end of the world but it is a bit annoying.

Is there a simple way around this?

    Thanks

The way you're doing it is the only way I know of. Unless you connect to the wired before you connect to the wireless, maybe it'll take first connected as default?

Set the metric in the network adaptor settings of the Wired connection to a lower figure than the wifi link, both should be set to automatic by default and normally the wired link will have a lower metric but in your case something funky is happening.

    Thanks for that.

I tried it but upon restart the wireless connection still seems to take priority.

Any other ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
