Hi, more info is needed for an honest reply. What sources are you going to be using, and what's your budget and how far from the screen will you be sitting.

I am currently redecorating my sitting room.. painting it a cream colour... so it will be a lot brighter than before.. the sitting room is pretty big.. I had a 28" CRT in there but looks lost now that I am able to push it back into the corner.. I suppose I will be sitting 8-12 feet from the TV..

I have sky digital at the moment and generally watch a lot of sports.. I don't have a HD box but might consider it in the future.. I am looking at spending 700 ish for TV and stand.. I have the CRT sold for 120..

    Thanks for your help..

Do yourself a favour and buy a 37" Panasonic plasma, it would suit your setup perfectly and would be great for football and SD content. Going from a 28"CRT to a 42"full HD LCD will drive you mental.

Could you elaborate a little on this please?

umm yeah ok, he has a SD source connected to a SD screen and I'm sure he has a good quality picture for watching the footie. Put the same source into a full HD LCD and the end result will be terrible esp with football.

Thanks for all the advise... I suppose I was thinking of a few years down the road by getting a Full HD.. That LCD on ebay went for £420.. same TV is 899 in Harvey Norman.. surely there is a bit of value there..

moolers.. you are correct I do have a great picture from the JVC 28".. why are you suggesting a 37" plasma rather than a bigger one?

I was just thinking of your budget, a 42" would of course be better if you could stretch to it.

and you suggest a plasma because the picture would be better than an LCD with the SD?

Yeah, it's definitely better for SD.

At 50" you're going to be able to see unwanted video artifacts with a SD source. Would be glorious with HD but you don't seem to have a HD source. I personally wouldn't buy a Phillips tv or buy it off ebay but that's your own business.

Plasma's are better for bigger sizes, but Philips haven't made Plasma in a while now, and their last one got a poor review. I'd steer clear to be honest.

Get a Pioneer Kuro Plasma (if you can afford one). They're the business. Have a 42" one myself.
