He's obviously a possibility but for me, leaving out the obvious choices, I fancy Paul Casey who was showing some good form in Dubai.

    Draw attached (from WGC site).

I am going to go for Andres Romero, everytime i see him play he gets better and better.

I am going to have a flutter on Rory.

    - Superb Match Player
    - Will be relaxed because he has first win under belt
    - growing confidence
    - nothing to lose

At 50/1 he is excellent value and with 1/4 odds to make semis that's really good.

Yes - a tough draw but have a feeling he may do it

I tend to think that you are better off backing a good putter in matchplay, just for the psychological impact that it has.

The obvious difficulty with betting on matchplay is that any of these guys can beat each other over 18 holes so it's not something I'd be rushing in to put money on.

I think Sergio will be gone by the end of Wednesday.

I'll be having a few small flutters on the games on tv

No easy matches there for anyone but Rory has a difficult opener. Oosthuizen is in very good form lately.

I'm liking the Ben Hogan division the most from that draw... Some cracking match-ups like Sterne v Cink, GMac v Zach Johnson, Kjeldsen v Vijay... I'm picking the three ET players to win those matches, but I won't be gambling on it ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 592 ✭✭✭gorfield

My money went on Andres Romero at 60/1 and camillo bejaysus at 33/1

I've backed Baddeley who plays him in the first round.

Easy.....Poulter to win and show you all that he is the best.

(Err but I'd rather see Rory win).

I guess that rules out Sergio's chances then. :P

    Tiger
    is having some start.

Amazing start ha ha.Give him the trophy now.;)

Some good matches played so far today. My man Casey got through Iup against Baddely. Rory is 2up against Oosthuizen after 14. No sign of Harrington yet.

Oh yeah, and Sergio was 4 down after 4 a half hour ago. Looks like Tiger's presence has scared him off. :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 622 ✭✭✭irishtoffee

I picked Romero and thankfully did not go to the bookies.

Harringtons poor matchplay form continues....great win for Poulter, hammered Jeev Singh 4 & 3...sergio grinding it out against shwartzel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

    wheels coming off for sergio
loses 16:eek:&17:eek:.....................over the back of the green on 18 on a downslope:(.....................night all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,925 ✭✭✭BUACHAILL

    wooooops
    where did Sergio go ???
    NIGHTMARE

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,989 ✭✭✭Trampas

I knew Sergio wouldn't be staying around long.

Padraig and the Goosen have awful records in this comp.

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

A lot depends on the 'luck' of the draw too... Harrington lost 1up but was -3 for his round.
McIlroy won 2&1 with an approximate level par 17 holes...

Does anyone else think that the TV coverage sucks. I know it's typical of the American channels, but they seemed to be either showing Tiger or on a break.

Really promising start by the yound lad!

He got a nightmare draw in Ooshuizen and the commentators were even saying early doors it was a shame that 2 young form players had to meet so early.

1st time playing as a Pro in U.S. - 1st time playing desert course - up against a serious player in Oosthuizen - all in all a fantastic start.

Garcia was a little unlucky. Seems the scoring in their match was some of the lowest out there. That's Matchplay I guess.

Noticed that but I'll take it with a pinch of salt given the day that was in it. It was either Tiger waiting, lining up, chatting, playing or video recaps of what has happened since Tiger last played. Wanted to see more of Harrington and Garcia but yesterday was naturally enough the Tiger Woods show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,989 ✭✭✭Trampas

It is always the Tiger Woods show in the US.

Sky have a few of the own cameras over so might help a bit

I agree, bummer of a draw. He doesn't have the best of draws against Hunter Mahan either, he has been much improved over the past couple of seasons.

Bejaysus has won his two matches by 7&6 and 5&4 so 33/1 looks good now.

Bejaysus looking a great bet now
