If you turn off the firewall and not use the internet explorer or anyother web browser, can you still get viruses?

In my case i want to use xbox live but i need to turn off the firewall in order to use it. But im afraid i might be targeted by viruses. Any help?

You're much safer with it on. I'm not into gaming so you'll need to clear this up: Xbox live is on the Xbox itself, not the computer, yes? If so, you'd need to fix your router's settings. This usually involved poking a hole in your firewall (port forwarding) as opposed to disabling the firewall entirely.

Firewall will limit someone on the internet hacking into you, absolutely essential many exploits in windows remain unknown/unpatched for years

    it offers NO protection against
    viruses in emails
    dodgy web sites
    stuff you download

as per previous post you may wish to open up part of the firewall
