Heres one of the best I've seen so far, job was advertised today, I applied to it at 9am, I got a call from agency at 9:30 to say that this role was "on hold" and would I be interested in a totally different one.. I said no, was then asked did I know anyone who would be interested in it... Duh!

I'd be willing to bet most of the jobs advertised by La Creme on Irishjobs.ie are fake. Case in point, this job:
One of the worlds most recognised Accountancy firms, my client is currently seeking a secretary to support a small team in their tax department. This is an ideal opportunity for you if you have recently completed a secretarial or typing course.

As a very involved member of the team your duties include Diary management, Travel organisation, Client liaison, Report writing, Preparing presentations, Filing and general administrative support however a major focus on this role is typing (both copy and audio).

    Salary €30,000 - €32,000 + benefits

I had applied for this a week or so ago only to be told it was at an "advanced stage" and they werent accepting any more cv's. Interestingly I got the same reply about 2 of their jobs that were advertised on irishjobs...

Fast forward to today and they are advertising the job again. I emailed the girl who sent me the automated response asking for my cv to be put forward for it and she again sent me the same response about it being at an advanced stage...so why are they advertising it all over again?

I hate this crap, La Creme have always seemed like a really mickey mouse agency, can't imagine they have many positions anyway. If im not suitable then just tell me but dont fob me off with excuses.

Guys, the majority of agency jobs are fake.

A 'Post your "real jobs" here' thread might be better.

    Oh yes.

I got totally scammed last week.

Had a call from an agency that I've used before and foudn to be quite good describing a role for which I'd be entirely suitable. Said I was interested, I said I would tailor my CV for the role and resend it to agent. I went online, checked the company's website and the role wasn't advertised there so I figured it was bona fide. I had a conversation with the agent about how she had done a good job to win this business. When I asked about the salary range I was told that the company had asked for a range of salaries to be sent in and I should articulate my expectations.

Sent my CV through. Next day, early afternoon, got an email from the agent sent to me by mistake - it was supposed to go to the recruitment person - stating that because the company had used this agency before they were sending in my application and that I had instructed them to act solely on their behalf.

Needless to say I was right on to the agent - who told me if the company really didn't want to deal through them that I could apply directly.

Well, needless to say I told her and the agency where to go in no uncertain terms got onto the company and applied directly. It turned out the role was on their website but under a different job title.....

So, be very very wary. Agents are desparate at the moment, there is nothing out there for them so they are really scraping the barrell......

The other line I've been fed is 'that job is still live but it's not active currently....................

That's quite worrying! Is it legal, surely they are mis-representing you?

I know 2 companies that in the past two monts put up jobs that didnt exist
they just did it to "test the waters" and see what the responce would be if anyonw working in thier competiters was interested in leaving it would give them an idea of that companies position ie things were bad or they were not good to work with

totally scandalous I applied for one and even after ringing them and assured someone would call me back never heard a thing
just makes me think how many real jobs apart from agency are really out there

I know of one company that did the exact same thing... Does make one wonder.

Yes it's actually quite frequent, especially in the current climate. Common explanation - "we can't afford to appoint anybody just now but we want to see who's out there anyway".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,236 ✭✭✭Dannyboy83

Have to admit, this is an eye opener.

Lightbulb just went on in my head reading this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,571 ✭✭✭herya

Well run a simple test... Bookmark a dozen or two company websites with jobs listed. Visit again 6 months later. See how many are still there. Do you think they haven't found anyone still?

I applied for a job last summer through one of the recruitment websites. The job I applied for was tech support which required fluent Finnish and English. I got a call back a few days later and they were trying to get me to go sell insurance instead... Eh.... how about no?

    Automation Engineer
    JDE Developer/programmer
    Store Manager

Still even when I click on those that are what I'm looking for, the above is what I seem to get all the time:rolleyes:

When you signed up for their jobs-by-email service, did you have to choose which areas of work you're interested in?

    Ask yourself:

In times of rising unemployment, why would an agency have an actual job on file and not enough CVs to pass on...?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Due to lack of quality, not quantity. They may have 3000 CV's with (for example) a cert in Word, and 2 with a cert in Excel. If they keep getting CV's in, when a place for an Excel comes in, they'll have 3 or 4 CV's to send to the company, and increase the chances of getting paid for getting the company a person with a cert in Excel.

Some muppets will have 200 people with a cert in Word, think it's the same as AutoCad, and forward your application on, though

OK. Well the problem then is the employers are putting their jobs into the wrong categories.

You can't really blame recruitireland for that...

Talking to two people in the recruitment industry and they are saying that jobs sites are in fierce competition with each other, and when a job is filled the recruiters cannot take the jobs down.

Best way to search is to troll company sites, or the smaller and yet to be established job sites..

We use two leading jobsites and you can take down jobs as you please so I'm not sure what sites they were talking about but in my experience it doesn't ring true?

Now the sad part is that companies keep old or fake jobs there too. I'm in touch with many companies and employees and in many cases I know for sure that the company is strictly not recruiting or in fact has just let people go but the jobs are still there...

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a C# Software Developer (ASP.NET/SQL Server) to take a pivotal role in a market leading company. Our client is a dynamic and market leading company who are passionate and committed to delivering the highest quality results about customer satisfaction. They are a major player and at the cutting edge of technology. This is an exciting role with excellent career and salary opportunities.

The successful candidate must have a substantial amount of experience in C#/ASP.NET/SQL Server 2000/2005. Further to this, knowledge of Visual Studio 2005 is beneficial but not essential.

If you wish to apply, please reply with the following (a must)

    Your Salary/ Availability?

Where your cv has been submitted/to what companies your cv has been sent (not employment agencies) to avoid duplication?

    Any additional information..

Mods I would like to reveal the agent on this as this is a fake job spam that I got.
    1. She's a spammer.
    2. The job obviously doesn't exist.
    3. Someone might respond and not get a job because the agent fills it.

I can't believe she put this up on an advert. Don't ever give out companies that you ar einterviewing with or your CV has been sent to to an agent, they are just fishing.

Obviously if they mention company "A" and your CV has already been sent to company "A" then do tell them to avoid duplication.

Ha by the looks of it she is only fishing for business and probably won't last long the way things are going.

Think that Recruitireland.com(or the relevant agencies that use this site, La Creme and friends etc)seems to do this, a lot of the jobs that I applied for a while back suddenly changed to "Filled" status - however lo and behold they are re-advertised again, with an updated date of advertising, nonsense!!!

but what I don't understand is why are agencies actively encouraging people to send in CV's when the don't even read half of them?

I did some temp work in a Rec co, and trust me, even in times where it was hard to get good staff, they barely read half of them and 'filed' some excellent CV's. Got so bad that when a new practice manager started she did a spot check of the 'on fie' (for on file read 'never to be looked at again!') when she looked through some of the rejected CV's she was appalled that so many good candidates had been dismissed out of hand!

Point in fact - I applied for a role which was practically a carbon copy of my last role. All of the compentencies I had. All the req exp I had, etc. I would not send my CV for a job I was not qualified for. I got an email back saying I did not meet the minimum requirement! La Creme do seem quite bad - I had registered with them. When I ring they say oh we have nothing, but then I point out well what about x,y,z jobs listed on your website? oh, you're not suitable for that role - but it exactly fits my experience. When you push it lo and behold its at an 'advanced' stage or already filled! what a load of tosh!

So given the never look back at 'filed' CV's and given that they don't even read half the CV's then why in gods name are the touting for more CV's? they will only ignore half of them!
