One for the future: Danny Lee, originally born in South Korea, moved to New Zealand when he was 8.

On Sunday he became the youngest winner on the European Tour when he won the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth. Link.
He was also the youngest winner of the US Amateur when he won that last year. He's going to stay amateur until after this year Masters.

Yeah, I didn't post a follow-up in the weekly tour post because people may have wanted to watch it off tape or whatever.... but fantastic to see him play and win. He was already fairly impressive in the middle east, around 35th I think in Abu Dhabi?
He now has a two year exemption on the European Tour from the win, though he doesn't get any prize money... He gets to the Masters (and the US Open?) on account of winning the US Amateur but on condition he's still an Amateur (not sure if that condition applies for the US Open).

no chance! he hacked his way to that victory!

Tiger and Sergio weren't in the field. That means it's not an actual golf event.

    Yeah that's a tough call.

If the Masters was any further away I'd forget it and turn pro. But it's soon enough so hopefully he plays that and then turns pro with 23 months of exemption remaining. Sure if you believe the hype, he's be in the top 50 next year anyway, so he'll be back to Augusta in 2010.

Yeah that was some going by the young fella. Look forward to seeing him at Augusta. He looks very comfortable in the pro game already.

Fairplay Licksy too! You were tracking him from the start of the week in the other thread.

Rumoured he turned down a $50m contract a couple of months ago to turn Pro. Looks like his stock has gone up dramatically.

Yeah great victory. Remained consistant through out the weekend when most of the others were shooting all over the place. I think its just an exemption for the rest of this season and the whole of next year. A great position to be in for a young guy.

Despite all that I agree with Sheet. We'll probably never hear of him again now.

Are you taking the piss or what? You don't get to be the world's no 1 amateur golfer by being some fly by night. To come through any professional field like he did, and aged only 17, says alot about the guy.

I can guarantee you that you'll see alot more of him.

I'm really looking forward to this weekend's "actual golf event". :D

be aware that tiger will only be operating at about 40%

altho 50-60% generally means he pips his nearest rival in a play-off (with one leg)

Me too. Obviously, whoever wins is clearly the best player in the world, ever.

    Although given this...

They may only be able to declare themselves 60% of the best in the world ever.
Or if Tiger wins... which anyone who knows golf knows he obviously will... that'll mean he's 140% of the best player in the world ever. And if PH wins (hacks) only half the amount of matches, that's a 70% improvement he needs to make, meaning the two Bobs will have to boost the treble major winners game by 35% each, assuming a 50:50 ratio of mental : physical improvement.

    Like, duh...

I saw a little mini programme on this dude a few months ago on the Golf Channel via Setanta or could have even been the golf programme on the City Channel.

He was very young at the time and I think he had just won the NZ amateur open I think (don't quote me on this.)

Point is that he looked awesone even at such a young age.Good luck to him I say.

He could save himself some effort here and get a swish on his shirt because the drag coefficient of having a kartel shirt is 0.38 and as for wilson clubs....

Doh didn't see your post in that thread...haven't been around these parts much recently! Maybe this didn't need a new thread...
