    hi

    I have a 16 month old boy who suffers alot with chest infections his had eleven in total. His being hospitalised on 5 times because of this also his not gaining weight and has fowl smellin stools as these are signs of Cystic Fibrois i was concerned his had a sweat test done which came back normal, there is a family history on his fathers side of the family. Could anyone tell me could he still have with it not showing up on the sweat test. Ive also ask the doctor to carry out some blood work to detect the gene that C.F. kids have as he has said there is no need and now im even more worry:mad::confused:

    If you are worried, get a second opinion from another doctor.

    I have and his saying wait for a few months to see what happens as it could be just the weather that could be causing it!!!

    Sweat tests are a good general indicator but are usually taken over duplicate tests and only with clinical presentations.

    The smartest option, if you are having children is for the father to be tested. If he is indeed positive, you and your children should also be tested.

    Aside from anything else, the stool odor can be diagnosed and really this is a separate issue. If you are worried get a second opinion if only for peace of mind.
