    Hi all,

Can anyone tell me when the sensitivity & pain goes in new fillings. Got 5 white fillings done 2 weeks ago & there sore like a dull ache ive been taking painkillers for the pain. I know that white fillings can cause more pain & senstitvity. Do i wait and see if the pain subsides or do i go back to the dentist? Dont want to go back in cause it just takes time.

this is an interesting question and i see nobody commented. as it has been 2 months i am wondering if the sensitivity has gone away.
generally speaking, these days there should be very little or no post op sensitivity after white fillings, certainly a lot less than after metal fillings.

The original soreness is gone but I can't eat or drink anything directly from the fridge or a cup of tea until it cools otherwise it's very sensitive. My teeth werent senstive prior to getting the white fillings and its only on two of the teeth. I think it's something i'll just have to live with.

Have you asked your dentist about this Sheryl? The teeth should not be sensitive now if all is well with the fillings. Sensitivity to heat especially is a bad sign. Go back and mention it to your dentist. Assuming the dentist is a good operator and did 'good' fillings and you are still having this pain I suspect you will need root treatment eventually. (PLEASE NOTE this is a general statement and not a diagnosis). The best person to make the diagnosis is the dentist who did the work as they are familiar with the situation.

On the other hand if the dentist is not a good operator and says 'put up with it' or 'wait for it to go away' , then it may be wise to get an opinion from another dentist.

The dentist is great but is in newry so have to wait for an appointment!! Its not sore with heat the cold is a killer have to take stuff out of the fridge for half an hour before I can eat or drink it. I think its a root canal alright the dentist had told me that in time Id probably need it as the filling is quite big in that tooth so I think the time may have come.
