    Can someone recommend a hotel in Rome that they've stayed in and would go back to? Something in a good location and good enough quality. Don't mind paying extra for a nice hotel, it's only for a few days. I know the hotels there generally have smaller rooms etc

    Hotal Miami, good location and reasonably priced. Make sure to request a room at the back as the front is on busy street and can get noisy.

    Two years ago I stayed in the Hotel Villa San Pio in Rome and loved it. It's on a leafy residential street but you can walk to the Roman Forum and Colosseum in minutes. Breakfast is served in a pretty garden with a conservatory. Rooms were a fine size, even had a jacuzzi bath in our bathroom. The staff were very pleasant and supplied us with maps/info when we arrived. Just be warned, the hotel is on a hill, just in case you're of an older generation or have problems with knees/back for walking :)

    It's near plenty of local restaurants, small and quaint but with delicious food and cheap prices. I had a superb fillet steak for €12 in a place called Pirelli down the road.

    Here's the TripAdvisor page for it;

    We found it cheaper to book through a website called http://secretplaces.com

    If you've never been to Rome before I would definitely recommend using the Metro. The closest stop is just down the hill, a few minutes walk.
