Anyone seen any in the shops or on-line? Just plain black. They all seem to be tartan or PVC.

Try H&M cuz they ususally have things like this.

It is nearly impossible to get a decent black skirt, unless you want a pencil skirt. I've been looking since before Christmas, and have still not found one that is what I want. I got a black skirt today, in Penneys, which was quite simple but sort of high-waisted with a bow thing at the back. Not what I wanted but it will do for the moment. Most of the rest of their stock was terrible.
Haven't seen anything in H&M, but definitely worth popping in and out of usually for stuff like this!

I'd try the H&M by Stephens Green specifically. A lot of their stuff is quite simple (in a good way) and not over the top, so they'd be the first place I'd look for a black skirt.
