Looks like the PS3 is coming to my life in April, what are the 3 or 4 essential games I should have for it?

I'm going to list PS3 exclusives only, otherwise I'd list Burnout Paradise as well as it's an amazing game.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - Has a great story and combat is fun.
LittleBigPlanet - An amazing platformer that also has a create mode that let's you play cool levels other people have made or make your own levels.
Valkyria Chronicles - Best strategy RPG I've played in ages. Excellent story, deep gameplay and amazing graphics.
WipeOut HD - It'll melt your face off. There is nothing like Zone mode in WipeOut HD.

Fight Night Round 3. Greatest boxing game ever made! Online play = Win.

    Fallout 3

    (edit: COD4 obviously)

Cheers guys, reckon Burnout paradise and Little Big Planet might get the nod.

Whats the best FPS for PS3, exclusive or non-exclusive?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

Cod4 without a shadow of a doubt. Cod waw comes in close but it's just cod4 with new scenary, worse weapons and a flamethrower. (O and zombies)

    But really, buy Valkyria Chronicles.

And check out the off-beat stuff on the PSN store, too -- Noby Noby Boy is pretty funky, to say the least.

Metal Gear Solid 4 (definatly an essential)
fifa 09 (assuming ya like football games)
Call of Duty World at War

That is top of the list, was playing today in HMV, Haven't played a SF game since Super SF2 on the SNES, it felt just the same, totally addictive.

    +1

For something a bit different try High Velocity Bowling from the PS store! It's £4.99 (not sure how many euro it will be) and there's loads of free content for it. The control system makes excellent use of the six-axis wireless controller and there's also a bowling trick shot section :)

If you've never played Call Of Duty 4 before, get it. Still the best FPS out there. At least til next Friday.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is the greatest game of all time in my opinion, but you'd have to be a fan of the franchise the get the full experience.
Bioshock, is also fantastic. I'd highly reccomend it.
And Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has to be one of the most fun games I have ever played.

Of course, Killzone 2 will be out by then. Judging by the demo, I'd be reccomending that too.

I had a look but couldn't find anything, I'll have another go.

Looks like its SF 4, LBP, Burnout paradise and COD

Cant believe no one mentioned Oblivion:Game of the year edition. Its the same makers as Fallout3. Its excellent value for money as its huge. Good game with buckets of hours to be spent wandering around before you do the main quests.

Burnout is excellent and if you havent played Bioshock or the The Orange box I'd recommend both.

Heard good things about the new motorstorm but havent played it so dont blame me if its sh1te. :D

Seriously lads, is LBP any good?

Keep looking at the box in GAME and Gamestop. Can't make up my mind to get it. Afraid it'll be like spore as in all hype, then intial fun then tossed aside.

If its good i'm going to order from gamesnash.ie

EDIT: its 24 euro on play.com. Going to order it.

For 24eur, you can't go wrong!

I haven't spent much time playing it yet, though it is good fun. It'd be less fun though without the online elements.

Little Big Planet is worth all the hype it gets.

I'd also highly reccomend Street Fighter IV. Bought it today and it's fantastic.

Was playing SF on Friday, Am seriously coveting it now.

Haven't made up my mind whether to order killzone 2 from play.com to get it for 38e or cough up the 70e that Sony Ireland expect us to pay.

Killzone 2 Demo is quite good and looks great i now fixed my Samsung's settings (looked like a dark ps2 before i sorted it out).

Or you could get it for 34 euro from Amazon. When I saw the price of 70 euro in a shop for the pre order i laughed to myself and walked out.

and they had 10% off on friday when I ordered it and RE5 for £60.

Can't believe nobody mentioned Dead Space yet. By far my fave game of 08; great graphics, sound, storyline and atmosphere. A well executed 3ps in the vein of Resident evil meets Event horizon. I traded it in but will have to play through it again very soon (which I never do).

check out avforums.com for decent games deals as they usually have them before they make it to our bargain alerts. their second hand section has some great deals too. Picked up MGS4 for about 17e recently delivered.

If you only play one game for the rest of your life, make it Call of Duty 4. Don't know if you're planning on taking the PS3 online, I can take or leave multiplayer to be honest and don't like the way developers are leaning towards online co-op play, but COD 4 is amazing on-line. COD World at War is pretty good online too.

    Other than that you have.....

    Metal Gear Solid 4
    Unchartered: Drakes Fortune
Resistance: Fall of Man (sequel not so great imo)
    Far Cry 2
    Fall Out 3
    Deadspace.

That should keep you going for a while

I've never played LBP, can anyone tell me what the big deal is about it coz it looks like a kids game to me.

It is a kid's game, in the same way that Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda and Ratchet and Clank are kid's games, yet they are still awesome games.

LBP is a pretty good platformer, with a very good level creator tool and a brilliant online community for sharing and multiplayer gaming. IMO it is an essential title, lots of fun to be had.

    Less than a week.

Just ordered Killzone 2 on play.com. My first time to use them.

The website says they have it in stock and shipping takes place within 24 hours. Has anyone else used them and what are they like?

I have used them lots of times before, but not on pre-order. They were crap leading up to Christmas though, didn't mark whether stuff was in stock or not. I ended up cancelling everything I ordered. CDWow were the same

That's the thing, they're saying they have it in stock whereas Resident Evil 5 for example is still down as pre-order. Was wondering if they actually have it but won't release it until the launch day.

How long do they generally take to deliver?

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,109 Mod ✭✭✭✭whiterebel

5/6 days, sometimes quicker. Seems to depend a lot on where they ship it from. Some stuff seems to come from Hungary now, and some from the Channel Islands.
