I am thinking about trading up my .22LR (CZ) to maybe a .223, but I have just spent over an hour researching the issue and my head is numb. I have looked at the 22-250, hornet and .220 swift and of course the .223, so what I want to know is what caliber can I trade up to with little or no hassle from the local FAO, I just want to walk in and hand him my cert and the receipt for the new rifle and for him to scribble the new details on my cert. I dont want home visits and patronizing chit chat from plod. I will use it for bunnies and fox's in the field and paper punching on the range, no competitions. Thanks.

you can go rifle to rifle .shotgun to shotgun , pistol to pistol .thats what my Sargent told me monday. regardless of cal .but if you know your sarg ,well any thing is possible
22.250 is regarded as a fullbore , it or bigger is a big deal .

    Macnab,

    Jwshooter is right.

However, some districts consider .223 a "fullbore" too, some are lucky and it's a swap others, including mine is re-apply, and you will have to have monitored alarm etc. Check with your FO first if ya decide to go for a .223he/she will know what way it will go.

well ,i done the exact same as yourself ,went from cz22 to a .223 ,had to resend the license back to ashbourne ,got it amended and returned to me ,had a bit of hassle not much ,faily sound about it once i explained my reasons why i needed it ,the .223 brilliant round well worth it
