    Hi folks,

Just wondering if there are any bars outside of the well know main gay bars where off-scene guys go?In Dublin city centre.I am late thirties and dont feel comfortable or part of the scene in the three usual gay bars - the Dragon, the George and Panti??I have been to the Front Lounge but dont really it.I have often heard that many people who are less scene oriented might go to different bars around Grafton Street or Georges St/Stephens Green area.Just dont like being defined by having to go into the gay bars though have been many times.Looking to socialise with bi or guys who are not so into the late night dancing and the George.Any suggestions ??Some people say that its possible to meet gay/bi guys in any place but interested in finding out if there are bars which might attract more of a mixed crowd than others.Times and days etc.

    Thanks.

What is it about the 4 bars you mention that you don't like? I think there is a world of difference between them and while we don't have a huge number of bars, we do have variety. Personally I don't like the capital bars offerings, but I am a fan of PB and FL.

To be honest if you don't like being defined by being in a gay bar (which I totally understand by the way, i hate them), what would really be that different about being in a non-gay bar with a whole crowd of gay lads?

The whole idea of a scene is that it is a big crowd of gay folks. If people don't like the scene then they probably don't like to hang out in big crowds of gay folks. So I think what you are asking for is a bit of a contradiction. Sure every pub in Dublin is going to have a smattering of gays in it, but if they were all in one place at the one time, they may as well be in a gay bar.

If you want to meet non scene guys, then maybe the internet or gay social groups is the only way to go. Either that or just suck it up and go to a gay bar on a less busy night of the week when it's not all drag shows and disco dancing.
