Ok, I'm new to this & wouldn't even have joined except I'm going crazy tryng to think of a programme that used be shown on RTE about 10 years ago. It was hosted by this beardie fellow who used go up & down Ireland's waterways & canals in his barge. I know it doesn't sound very exciting, and it wasn't really, but for some reason he popped into my head yesterday & I'm slowly going insane trying to remember a) the name of the programme, and b) the presenter. If I recall correctly, it was quite an impressive beard he had. He might have looked like Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Why is it I can remember how to spell that and yet can't even think of the name of this guy?! He popped up on the Late Late a few years back suffering from Parkinsons. Anyoo, any help appreciated.

To the Waters and the Wild?

No, that wasn't it. I think that was Eamon De Buitleáir. I think it went along the lines of "Waterways" or some such thing. Which makes it impossible to google without having to sift through 15 000 000 entries about canal side property for sale!

Just asked the OH and he said it was To the Waters and the Wild with Eamonn De Bouttlear (sorry about the spelling)

It sounds like Waterways with Dick Warner.

He's doing another programme for RTE shortly about the Grand Canal being reopened for use again (I think). Saw the promo for it the other night, so he's still around alright

Slim he travelled the Grand from the Liffey to Limerick in the earlier series in early 90s, the new series on tomorrow he travels the Royal on a 70ft barge from the Customs house on the Liffey to Tarmonbarry on the Shannon

PS: Anyone hear of any crashes on the M50 as he crossed the M50 on his barge?? :D
