Windows Media Player and Codecs

I downloaded an avi movie clip and when I got to playe it in Windows Media Player a message comes up saying that it is "acquiring codecs" but then it doesn't find them and then there is no picture. The sound does come through though. Any idea what codec I need or how I get the picture to appear. The clip wont play in Quicktime either.

Download VLC, it's a great video player and will play 99.9% of videos.

Media Player Classic is also another good media player and combined CCCP it too plays almost everything.

Both are way better then windows media player.

Here is a codec pack. This should enable you to play most if not all videos in windows meda player.

http://videolan.org and get the VLC player. It will play anything.
Make sure that you select full install, so that the xvid codec (the one you need for a .avi file) is installed.
