Elbow position during the squat

So after a quick discussion with Hanley re: my elbow positioning during the squat I decided to give it a go.

Tbh I probably didn't give it the proper run through, I was in bad shape this morning (Saw Doctors concert last night :pac:) and I was lifting a PB squat (105kg for 3x5).

I appreciate how the elbows being lower drives your chest up but the bar just didn't feel as secure as before. This again, is probably due to trying it with heavy weights, though I couldn't get comfortable with it during the warmup either. It just felt like I was losing the tightness in my upper back when I moved my elbows down. Maybe it just needs training but I'm not sure.

I've no problem changing my technique if my numbers go up, personally I'm in the mindset that the best technique is the one which allows me to lift the heaviest weight safely. This sort of thing unfortunately is very hard to sort over the internet, I'm sure 5 minutes of coaching would have it sorted in person!

Just thought I'd stay true to my word and say how I got on!

Any chance of a vid. Are you squatting low bar? As low as you can?

No vid atm, I'll bring my camera down on Monday when I squat, I should be able to get a decent enough video of it.

Low bar squats alright, it sits in a nice groove about, i dunno, 6 inches from the base of my neck? Any lower and it doesn't feel as comfortable or secure.
