Apparently so.I always thought FitzGerald Stadium in Killarney would be suffice enough.Certainly a nicer venue in my eyes. Why don't the KCB do the more sensible thing and relocate there is Austin Stacks is to go?

    Um,

When wa the last BIG game in Tralee?

Fitzgerald's was recently redeveloped and is more than adequate tbh.

is there not a tralee-killarney thing going on in Kerry where they share the big games?

    Nope.

They share in the league. All championship home games are played in Killarney.

Theres never big games in Tralee!
All championship games are in Fitz stadium.
A decent sized stadium in Tralee is needed however to cater for the volume of matches in the county

    bizzare thread title considering that

a - the capacity stays the same
b - their is never more than 12,000 in tralee anyway
c - all the "big" games are in the stadium anyway.

Kerry and Tyrone played in Tralee in the league in 2006 and around 25,000 to 30,000 showed up and all hell broke lose as the Stadium was at bursting point, people sitting in the aisles etc.

After that more league games began to be played in Killarney also. Austin Stacks park will remain for a long time yet and if they build this development now they will be brave men given the current economic climate. I'd expect something to happen around 2015 with Enda Kenny going into his 2nd term as Taoiseach.

That Tyrone Kerry game in 2006 was half empty - I was at it.

Last year they played under lights on a Saturday night.

Planning permission went through last week and that development is going ahead on the Stacks gound who are relocating.

I was being humorous, such is my lack of faith that this thing will get built with the economy and all!

I do believe you are correct was that match in 2006 played under lights also? The match I was recalling was Kerry v Tyrone but in 2004 during the league under Jack O'Connor with Kerry seeking revenge for the mauling received during the 2003 All-Irl Semi-Final, Paudi O'Sé resigned afterwards. There was a huge crowd at that match, I just got my date mixed up. I think the 2004 fixture was a draw IIRC.

The only time i remember a huge crowd at Tralee was a 1st round Munster championship game against Tipp on a beautiful sunday a few years ago.
It was also full for the limerick hurling championship match in 2003???.

I like the ground as it is right now. Small and compact, good view from the Terrace. Parking is a bit of a nightmare though, so im sure the new stadium will have good parking facilities.
