Anybody know the generic effect pedals these guys used?

im trying to get a dirty, scratchy, muffled my bloody valentin type sound on rhythm..... and couple of lead pieces high toned RATM style and few othr parts Joy Division effects reverb style?

i dont trust them large mult effects boars but im thinking about getting one to cover the sounds of each song im looking for but any input on the set-up these guys used would be great!

have highlighted the parts that would give it away!
not trying to be smart btw jsut thought would waste more time and more interestign for you to do it that way...

If you're looking for Joy Division's guitar sound that's on record then you'll need to ressurect Martin Hannett. Live, I don't think Barny used any effects, he had a 2humbucker guitar with a bolt on neck and a trem arm.
Hooky's bass usually has some sort of chorus on it, I think I saw on gutiargeek that he used/uses EHX perhaps ?

If you want a dirty scratchy "muffed up" sound then get some sort of dirty muffed up overdrive pedal like a Rat or an EHX Muff :)

I'd recommend posting on HarmonyCentral Effects forum, lotsa stuff there.

People use effects on bass too (myself included) and also multi-effects pedals. Along with this you mentioned leads, in Joy Division and some of those other bands the bass takes the lead in a lot of songs. Your post was confusing and without much detail.

I love Joy Division. My Bloody Valentine sounds like a washing machine in a thunderstorm. Kevin Shields I think used to use half a dozen Eq pedals at different settings. Loveless is alright.

Ha ha or how about a thunderstorm in a washing machine? ah u dont like them thats a big pity! they are one of the best bands out of this country and kevin shields on his own merits is a legend just pure brilliance to make noise and sounds without having a regard for standard composition... annoyingly that made me sound like a mars volta fan i had an arguement with once! i like them but too pretentious and that at times sounds like a washing machine in a wrestling ring!

As far as I know Kevin Shields hates Ireland and has never said a good word about it or living here. His parents divorced and he was moved from New York (or New Jersey) to Ireland when he was a teenager

Kevin Shields uses a bit more than that. He has a different set of pedals for each song, look at this link and have your jaw supported for when it drops.

specifically for morello, he does a series of lessons on youtube, very detailed about gear, settings control of pots, stomps, wah, whammy etc. a great vid.

this is part 1. there are 3 parts so just follow it through. covers rhythm and lead.
