I've started looking in this forum only recently and already I've discovered some gems from album of the week. Fugazi, Muse, and Morrissey especially.

I'm a bit stuck for music at the moment though. I really like My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Roxy Music, Sigur Ros, and my favourite band: The Brian Jonestown massacre. Can anyone recommend me something similar, along these lines, or something you think I might like based on the information above? Thanks.

A Place to Bury Strangers do the My Bloody Valentine/Mary Chain thing exceptionally well. The self-titled album by Jesu is another good modern shoegaze record.

    One word: Ride.

And also M83 - a contemporary "shoegazing" group.

    Yeah, I second M83.

If you enjoy the electro-shoegaze style then you might also enjoy Ulrich Schnauss. You can definitely hear some MBV influence in his stuff.

Agree with above posts I reckon you'll love Ride (get their album "nowhere" first) and M83. Also try Asobi Seksu and Fever Ray, two of my fave noobs. Explosions in the Sky are also ace - MBV meets Sigur.

I'm gonna recommend Black Rebel Motorcycle Club since you mention BJM. It's not that they are very similar sounding but there is that little Peter Hayes link. Get their debut BRMC, Howl, Baby 81 all great albums.

Thanks for all the replies guys. It'll take me a while to sift through this stuff but I'll post back when I find something that I love:cool:

PS. A friend just gave me the BRMC album and I really like it so far.

Yeah, a great band. Happy Songs For Happy People is a great album. Make sure to check out their website for free stuff. If you like them you would probably enjoy God is An Astronaut, too.

I'm really loving this song at the mo:

Somebody mentioned Explosions In The Sky - they have generously offered an entire album (The Rescue) for free download (as well as a few single tracks from other albums).

Ulrich Schnuass is a god amongst men, and his three albums are amongst the best in any genre this decade.

    This

Holy F*uck are also quite good, but they are a t times a little poppy for my liking. I assume that since you like Morrisey then you have looked into the smiths?

Also you might like Crystal Castles, look 'em up on youtube

I've been sifting through your recommendations so thanks for the advice. I bought an Explosions in the Sky album but I found it a bit contrived and predictable in trying to be "epic".

I'm loving Black Rebel Motorcycle Club so cheers for that.
