He has no info on any of his cars, which is weird.

Those Corsa's are grand though, friend of mine has one and he treats it like crap and its never bit back.Price looks good, milage is low, could be good alrite.Have a look and if you like it, bring a mechanic with you to give it a good going over.3k is alot of money for a first car.

well ive been driving my parents car for over about 1 and a half now and have the money for a car if the car seems good and the price is right and this car seems like a good price for its year and mileage........

I'd be aiming for 2500 anyway. Make sure it has an NCT and warranty with it. Check all the usual area's for crash damage and make sure it has a full service history. No point buying something with low mileage that wasn't looked after.

TBH, it doesn't look like a very high spec model. Also the 1.0 is supposed to be very slow in them. Whether spec of power is any interest of yours is up to yourself.

im def going to try and bargain a bit and see if he is flexible. I also will not be buying if it isnt nct and fully serviced. spec and power isnt priority. just want a reliable car that doesnt cost an arm and a leg to insure.........

Another one to have a look at. Whether the warranty off that dealer would be worth much, if anything, i don't know. So a private sale could be just as easy.

It does seem good value though.

it does look like good value, id prefer to avoid private sales as i dont know much about cars but even i can recognise value in it!!

Well make sure you are getting a warranty off that lad, and find out exactly what's covered. You could effectively being buying off the Dealer, but getting the exact same benifits from a private sale.

thanks for showing an interest and i will def make sure i know how long and what the warranty covers before i decide.

    What do you guys think?

I'm thinking would your insurance be much extra to go up .4 in engine size to something like this...

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Volkswagen/Golf/1.4-75bh/200907191838659/advert

I think it would be a good starter car for less money....

I wouldn't be too keen on it. A nice new shiny set of wheels usually try and distract you from the rest of the car. 1.4 of that year aren't the most reliable.

the mileage seems very high and with 3 previous owners i probably wouldnt be interested. i believe the differnce in insurance would be approx. 500e. not sure tho!!

I would not touch that car from that era. My friend had a same spec one with less mileage on it and the amount of stuff that went wrong with it just as he was getting rid of it was phenomenal. I cant remember what happened but at least 6 relatively expensive things went wrong with it in the space of 2 months.

Going up to a 1.3 or 1.4 shouldn't cost too much if your 20, full licence and so on.I have a 1.3 Lancer for sale which runs great.

ok maybe a bad choice of cars:o but what I meant a slightly bigger car...a little safer;)

i'm struggling to find one, bar another golf.....would the xtra insurance/tax be 2 much....be back with another idea shortly....

Having criticised a Golf for unreliability i feel somewhat hypocritical recommending this but they werent supposed to be bad afik and were a decent little car when they came out. I like the look of them too.

This would be a definite good choice if you want a good reliable car but you would want to get it for around €2,500 id say.

Becareful with the 1.0 litre Corsa, that engine is prone to head gasket failure afaik.

did this happen to you or one of your friends or are you experienced with cars and have heard of many cases of this?
Not being smart or anything just want to know what to ask when viewing the car.......

Just to let people know, went to see this car, brough it for a test drive. was grand but there was a small crack on the front window and the central locking wasnt working properly. He also quotted at 3500e for a price. Didnt seem interested in budging from his asking price either. Good enough car but theres plenty more fish in the sea!!!!

Aye. One thing I'll advise when buying a used car, take your time, don't rush into anything. I guarantee you plenty will turn up on carzone in the next week or so. And don't limit yourself if possible, if you are from Limerick and you see one you like in Dublin, find five more up in Dublin, and take a day out and go see them all. The more you see the more you will know what standard to set for yourself, and what to look out for/any common faults.

The red colour looks to be good value. They'll go on for ever. I actually have a friend looking for one of those so i might show him that:o

Second one again doesn't look too bad. He has it at €3,150, which basically means he'll take 3k for it, but no less. Mileage is a bit low, irrespective that it's English, make sure it has a service history to back it up. Both nice cars, the silver one would be more appealing looks wise. Could be that bit cheaper to insure, but both look like a good buy.
