    Hi,

Just wondering what would be a realistic expectation salary/career wise -
    MCSA: Messaging, MCSE
    CCNA

Over 3 years experience between EMEA support Active Directory, Exchange, VMware.

One year experience as the only "IT Guy" in small software dev firm.

    Any suggestions? :)

Well, I'd take any job you can get, but with 3 - 4 years experience, perhaps 35k?

(I know people used to expect crazy salaries, but those days are over.)

    Mid range - €35k

really ? you are working in a company that develops software as a business and you are the only IT guy? Find that hard to believe

I don't think he was trying to say the software developers were accountants or doctors. He meant he was the only person in the office who had any networking skills.

    That's fairly common.

Check the salary surveys on recruitireland, irishjobs etc.

There is a good career path in Sys Admin type roles. I would say your experience would warrant a 40k salary depending on location and company and the dept of your experience. If I was you I would think about specialising in VMware.

After that you can get to Sys Admin Manager level which would be around 60k, the next level is Head of Sys Admin in a medium-large sized company which would be 80-90k.

maybe with older developers but more recent grads i.e. in the last half a decade are coming out of college fully loaded with other skills such as networking, server maintenance etc... so this is becoming less common for developers to have dev only skill sets.

That's not so common any more. IT Operations Managers are looking at between 65k and 85k now, depending on company/sector. Salaries are not what they used to be, rightly or wrongly.
