John, save your money. Just get you brother to buy a few dozen. Play behind him for a couple of rounds and you'll have a bag full....

Halpenny have a deal on Nike One Platinums for e30 a dozen. Picked a dozen up for the craic and was really surprised with how well they played.

£31 a dozen but you'd want a few dozen to cover shipping (£10)

What's the obsession everyone has with ProV 1's. I have never played them, are they really that good? Or is it just more golfer brand chasing?

You can get refinished ones here if its any good to you. $60 for 3 dozen

Hahahhahaaaa, I HAVE to get him on here, he'd be mortified, between you and Danny takin the pish, poor little divil that he is..

Little fooker had 27 pts for 12 yesterday, he's actually driving the ball alright again, I'll have to do something about that.

BTW please please please beat Ciaran P on Saturday, I can't wait to rip the pish out of him:D

Try them. You'll be shocked at how good they actually are. Really improved my <100 yards game

Will try my best, we have to give him a rake of shots. If I keep knocking in the birdies like last week we'll have him covered.

Even though I'm an 18 handicapper? I might save up a weeks wages and buy a dozen this summer.

I picked up 2 dozen this week in my local golf shop in Kilkenny, €45 for one dozen or €80 for 2 dozen.
I got a box of each of the Pro V1 and the Pro V1x. I'll try the x's earlier in the year until the ground firms up (he said hopefully)... haven't used the x's before.
Last year I was using the TaylorMade TP ball but found that while they were lovely to play with, they weren't as durable and cut and scuffed much more easily than the Titleist so I switched back.

Here on eBay is good. Various grades. Useful if you can get others interested so you can share the post and packaging.

    Thanks folks,

€40 a doz in McGuirks or Halpennys seems to be the best available, and I'll have them in my hand walking out of the shop, not waiting for delivery or anything like that.

Janey that's very good value, I'd be interested in that if anybody else would, am sure we could arrange a meet-up for money and stuff.

    Anybody else?

    I tried the refurb-route before.
They look fantastic until you hit them, the new surface just comes off straight away. Not worth it in my opinion. You are better off getting some lake balls instead.

Lake balls and refurbs are both a no-no I'm afraid, they are crap.

    Brand new all the way.

Why do you think lake balls are crap?

Because of lack of consistency, one could have been at the bottom of a lake for 3 months, one for 3 hours.

Obviously the longer a ball is under water the more it deteriorates.

Also there is no quality control in their grading, I have no faith in how they are graded.

Generally like to use quality balls that I know will perform how they are supposed to.

The only info I can find to substantiate this is from golf Digest
A three-piece ball tested using a robotic hitting machine and a standard length metal driver with a 9.53 degree loft and an extra stiff shaft, with a club head speed 93.7 miles per hour and a launch angle of 9.0 degrees and with a spin rate of 2,800 rpm, the result for a three-piece ball was a difference in carry of 6 yards after an eight day immersion, a 12 yard loss after three months and a 15 yard loss after six months.

For a two-piece ball, the amount of carry was 6 yards shorter and after having been immersed for eight days was a total of 9.1 yards shorter. While for two-piece balls being in the water typically makes the ball harder in terms of compression, it also shows down the coefficient of restitution or the ability of the ball to regain its roundness after impact The above factors make the ball fly shorter. Three-piece balls have been found to get softer in terms of compression, but they also fly shorter

15yrds after 6 months from a perfectly hit drive sounds like about 2 yards for most golfers. Id hardly call that inconsistent. No more than the natural inconsistency between each shot. Note that it also makes 3 piece balls softer, which could be considered a benefit.

Im not trying to argue that they are as good as new balls, just that they are miles better than refurbs and to 99% of golfers, the difference is negligible.

Fair enough, point taken, they are just not for me, horses for courses.

Just cos they're not for me doesn't mean they're not for everyone.

There's new Prov balls on the way from Titleist so the likes of McGuirks have cut their prices quite a bit. Titleist are getting rid of all their stock so doing good deals with suppliers.
