Company startup and VAT

I've just recently set up a limited company and I'm in the process of opening a company bank account in preparation to start trading.

Do I need to be VAT registered in order to invoice clients?

The company is a Web Design and Search engine marketing company and so there is no tangible way to back up whether that the company will be making over €25,500 in the next 12 months so in this case do I not need to register?

Bit confused as Im english and rules are different over here. In the UK your company doesn't have to be VAT registered unless it makes over £60K a year.

    Many Thanks

    Hi Gypsy777

There is no need to register but if you hit the limit within the year you must register then

You do not need to be VAT registered to invoice clients unless you will be over the registration thresholds. The VAT registration thresholds are €37.5k and €70k depending on your activity. Whats your expected turnover and your exact activity? PM if youd prefer :)

Also, there is an option to pay VAT on receipt of payment - very useful when people are slow to pay, as opposed to paying when you invoice.

Besides registering for VAT, what other revenue commitments would this individual (or myself, exact same position but even smaller income) have?
Yearly income is 4 figures P.A., no more. Thanks :-)

You would need to file an annual tax return (Form 11) This would include a calculation of the profit of your business (Sales less costs)
