I've been kinda run down the last while and I got a cold sore last week. I immediately put Zovirax on it, and also dabbed it with aftershave as that dries it up. It was very annoying but went after a few days and was grand. However, the little b@astard got pissed off and came back with three of his mates. I now have 4 cold cores on my lower lip - its horrible. And to top it off I've got the flu too...

Apart from Zovirax etc is there anything I can do to make these go away quicker?
    Thanks

    I feel your pain!

I woke up 2 weeks ago with one, just as it was going I woke up one morning with SIX!!! - including 2 on the inside of my mouth where they are rubbing off my teeth when I speak/eat (OUCH!!!). :(

My advice is to go to the doctor if they are really bothering you. There are things they can do to help - oral meds, prevention strategies, advice to stop them coming back...

    Hey there op.

I had a really bad break out a few years ago and my pharmacist gave me a little tub of folic acid tabs to help clear it up quickly. They werent branded or anything and they really did help with the healing. Bright sunlight is a killer for me and being run down as well.

Compeed cold sore patches - expensive but do the job and clear it up for good.

start taking lots and lots of Echinacea..boosts your immune systems.
Stay away from zovirax...continue dabbing the aftershave. dont keep touching it, or thinking about it.
Continue taking the Echinacea from time to time, to keep yourself boosted.

They overwhelm the bodies immune system when you are run down- just look after yourself- plenty of rest, fluids and chicken soup and the body will fight them off.

Zoivrax is a little miracle worker but my God anti-virals are expensive.

    Take L-Lycine tablets..
and put tee tree oil on them..

Those compeed patches are great for night time, so you can sleep sound without worring if you are going to rub off cream in your sleep. but if you have 4 coldsores close together they might not be great as the stickiness of them might peel the skin off them..

There is a vitamin called Lysine and it is to prevent coldsores so if your prone to them it's worth taking a course of this.
Bio force make a little tube of cream called Bio Propolis and it is brilliant clears the coldsore so fast within a couple of days, most chemists stock it or boots

+100 for L-Lysine - I now carry the capsules in my bag so I dont forget to take them.

yup, lysine ftw. Its not actually especially for cold sores, its an amino acid that among other things...helps stop cold sores.

    http://www.anyvitamins.com/lysine-info.htm

but like most vitamins, take it for a month, then take a week off...rinse repeat...

If you put a little dab of vodka (or any other spirits) on the cold sore it will help dry it out a lot faster. Just put a little on before you go to bed and you'll notice a difference in the morning.

Thanks yeah I was doing that myself actually over the last few days.

With the Zovirax, Vodka, Aftershave and Lysine I definitely think I have kept them under control - they don't look half as bad today. Yesterday however was horrible case my lips are tingling like mad and driving me crazy. Because I have one in each corner its kinda hard to talk, and i try to avoid touching them. They feel a lot worse than they look thankfully. I'm taking barocca and multivitimins too cause I'm obviously run down which is why I got them in the first place.

Great to know about Lysine though I'll be taking it tactically in future - the Chemist agreed that it works and it even says it on the bottle.

I wish I had of known all this years ago - this is the worst case I have had in years and years but when i was a kid I used to get them a lot more, would have been good to know!

Dab the cold sore with "spirit of camphor" continually. It gets rid of it in a few days.
