Am I the only one who can absolutely not stand hairclips. They are the tackiest thing in existence. It's not just even personal taste, I cringe everytime I see them. There's just something about the way that they conflict with the texture of hair.

They seem to be getting more popular these days which is bothersome. Do girls think they're "cute"? What's really bothered me is one new thing I've noticed happening - the GIANT hairclip. A huge version of one of those plastic slides that they use to pin up all their hair at the back. It looks immeasurably awful.

It's an instant turn off point for me.

Couldn't you apply this to most threads in this forum.

What do hairclips do that you can't get by tying it black? Or even using some kind of styling product to keep hair in place, it interrupts the texture a lot less than hairclips.

All of them annoy me to some degree, but mostly the shiny plastic(or metal) sliders.

my hairs crazily thick and some of my layers are too short to fit in a pony.no amount of hairspray would hold then and im not putting wax or gel in because then id have to wash my hair everyday and with hair as long and thick as mine its a bit of an ordeal.

I can't speak for women who use them as a fashion accessory but I use hairclips because they have a purpose. They're great if you've greasy hair to pin it back or if you're growing out hair or if you've a special occasion, just stick a pretty one on your hair! I don't like the massive clips myself, but otherwise no problem. I wonder if the OP has too much time on their hands...

I think you have to much time on your hands if your checking out hairclips in womans hair, most of the time there the same colour as the hair how do you even notice them

You're kidding right? I'm not talking about hairpins(though they can be used annoyingly too), but hairclips, most commonly the "slides" but there are square ones that are twice as annoying. They're rarely in the same colour as the hair and can't possibly have anything approaching the same reflective properties as hair so they stand out like a sore thumb.

    Are you for real?

If it annoys you so much, I would suggest then the next woman you meet wearing these hair clips, go up to her and said it to her and see what reaction you will get because I doubt she will be thanking you for telling her what she can or cannot wear.

When did I say they could or couldn't wear them? I said they annoyed me. Unlike some people I don't judge what other people should do by my personal tastes. I dislike the aesthetic effect they have on women as a whole, but I did not say anyone should somehow be stopped from wearing them, that's ridiculous.

My hair gets made fun of all the time but apparently that's okay. Also you're a hypocrite since you're pretty much telling me what I can and can't say anyway. It's an aesthetic thing - people are going to have personal taste.

I don't really see the point of this thread any more. You can post your point of view, likewise I can post my point of view. :)

 I don't know what your hair is like so why bring that into it

Yes we all have personal tastes - is their particular hair clips that annoy you? Something like this one?

I like clips like Phoebe in friends used to wear.. the hair twisted up with nice coloured clips in them. Without them you're kind of restricted to hair in ponytail/plait/bun, you can't have an 'up do' without clips.
Hair slides, I haven't wore since in school- I prefer bobby pins now, less 'hair getting caught in them and being reefed out of your head' situations.

But you didn't post a point of view - you posted a Strawman. Nowhere did I say that people shouldn't wear hairclips purely because I say so. But at the same time I believe them to generally be tacky and aesthetically degrading, and I wish to share this opinion.

Hairpins that aren't visible on the outside anyway aren't really what I'm talking about. There are certain kind of updoes you can do just by tying the hair up, but you need it kind of long and it takes a fair bit of time.

That's what I hate too. It's not just that they look awful, they're bad for your hair too. Even if you have an endless supply of thick hair, it's still not comfortable or nice. That's why I don't think the "it's practical" thing cuts it. I don't see any reason to wear them in place of pins anyway. It's kind of silly to say I spend too long looking at women's head - they're very obviously there, I'd rather not see them, and generally they're more of a young girl-ish thing than a "Woman" thing, though even grown women abuse them.

I don't mind bobby pins if they're not too conspicuous. What I'm talking about are big plastic/metal things ruining the overall texture of the hair. Of course it's my own taste, but I can think of some overall reasons why it might defy the look the weaerers go for too, I don't think they pay enough attention to their presence to realise how much a shiny plastic surface conflicts with the texture of hair. I'm saying people absolutely should stop wearing them, but I really rather would if they were not used so much. If I had a girlfriend with them I'd actually feel uncomfortable. They're one of the things I just kind of uncontrollably cringe at.

I kind of understand what you're coming from and agree that they're annoying, but I feel its annoying to a much lesser degree than you. I dislike brashy loud hairclips, too glittery etc, I'm also sick of seeing those bow clips in every girls hair, they're everywhere and the tartan ones are particularly awful imo. I don't really like silly babyish ones either, like Hello Kitty or fruit or whatever. Elegant clips and pretty flowers etc are lovely in the right hairstyle, I got one myself today :)
I think I just hate trends absolutely everyone follows, if everyone wears the same thing its not really even a style anymore, its the uniform of the masses, and that's what bothers me about most things like that, too many people wearing them.

I use hair pins/bobby pins to keep my fringe back for a different look or for when I just want it out of the way.
Was out with friends last night and one girl had her fringe clipped back with a gold snap clip. I thought it looked nice. I wouldn't be into any of the kiddie style clips unless you are a child wearing them!
I think a jewelled hair pin can look really good in the right hair style.
I wouldn't use pins/clips everyday but they do have their uses and I think they're great.
