Hi, im using 12" powerbook G4 with a Kennsington Universal charger (which are terrible but thats another story) i broke the 'tip' used for the powerbook with the charger so had to replace it which took 2 months.

The tip arrived and i plug in the computer and there is no life at all, leave it plugged in overnight and there is one light now when you press the button on the battery itself.

Usually it would powerup fine when battery was dead but plugged into the mains, machine was working fine up to the charger breaking laptop was kept indoors whilst not in use at room temperature cant for the life of me understand whats wrong with it! any advice welcome.

I looked up resetting the PRAM or whatever that is but it did nothing, should i just leave it plugged in for as long as it takes!

PS this has one of the batteries that they did the recall of in 2007 so the battery is fairly new. Cheers.(-edit- the charger was working 100% fine before the lapse in use)

    Hi dumbyearbook

Just guessing but,did the adapter(tip) get broken while it was plugged into the Powerbook socket.
If so,then I'm guessing that the DC socket on the Powerbook is damaged internally(probably just needs a resolder).

Is it possible that your universal charger has variable polarity (ie you can reverse the +/- terminals by putting the 'tip' on the opposite way)? If so, you may have just fed it the laptop with reverse polarity and fried something.

    Hey thanks lads,

IM the tip did break whilst it was plugged into the powerbook so this could be it (the batt has charged a little though?) maybe only a little power got through.

Vodoo_child don't think its that as the tip will only go on the one way.

Do you know where in Dublin i could get it looked at?

    Sounds like it all right.
I'd say that the only reason its charging is that the Powerbook socket is making contact internally on an intermittent basis.

Not sure where in Dublin you could get it fixed but if you knew anyone with some soldering experience(and it ain't rocket science to do) then you could tackle it.

    Heres a good site:
