Bike Servicing

Any suggestions on where's best to get a bike serviced on the North side of Dublin?

I do some work myself, but I'm not in any way mechanically minded, which means if I go near the gears, the brakes fall off!!

My previous bike shop servicer is on the south side and getting the bike to him and leaving it there is logistically difficult.

    Cheers in advance.

Could you be a bit more geographically specific? DNS is a big place.

Somewhere around the north city centre would be ideal, but failing that anywhere out along Drumcondra, Santry or Swords.

I tried Cyclelogical but they won't do bikes they haven't sold! A bit strange I thought and also a bit annoying considering the amount of gear I've bought from them over the last few years in terms of clothing, wet gear and consumables.

Cycleways will do it, or there's a place in the Omni Centre that's supposed to be very good (can't think of the name off hand).

When we are reffering to bike servicing what exactly do we mean? Gears/brakes adjustments?

    Mostly gears and brake adjustments.

I do some minor stuff myself, but it's got to the stage now where I need to have it done properly.

Thanks TinyExplosions - I think the place in Omni is Sean Duff cycles - I didn't realise they did repairs. I'll give them a go.

Cycleways did some work before putting on some pedals I bought - I wasn't too impressed with them. They put them on badly and one popped off when I was riding. In their defence they replaced the set with an ever better set with no argument, but it does make you wonder!!!!

Odd considering pedals are one of the easiest things to put on a bike.

Indeed! I bought the pedals and they offered to put them on. I thought "Why not? It'll save me a job" and they did it there and then. Cycling home then through Drumcondra the left pedal came out (attached to the shoe). It didn't shear off, it just wasn't fitted properly.

I fixed it as best I could and next day went back to complain. They were very nice about it and offered to replace the set - excellent customer service, but I'd rather not be zipping down some hill thinking that maybe the guy who fitted the pedals was the last one to adjust my brakes!!!

There's a bike shop called Richie's in Swords. I think it's in the little shopping mall there.

The guys in there weren't very good when I dealt with them.
