..as most people unearth their cars/bikes/whatever from hibernation around this time of the year, anyone got their insurance renewal yet ?

I got mine from CN today, and........it went up 25% I am not fcuking impressed, believe me

So, who are the current classic insurance players, and any guidelines ?....time to start ringing around.

    Try AXA and FBD.

Try FBD . Always competitive but most importantly it is the little extras that come as standard in their policies - plus if you you do have to make a claim they wont shaft you like the budget/bargain basement insurers.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

CN upped my third party only quote from €380 to €420 on the 928

I moved to first Ireland where I'm now fully comprehensively insured for €350

    As always, shop around...

I've been with AXA for years. If you are in a Club, any Club, it helps too !

My regular car insurance went down for Jan'09 by about 15% which I wasn't expecting !

    I got mine for €188 from Carole Nash. It's a '74 BMW 2002tii

Ok there's a 4000m/600km annual limit, but it suits me just fine. My bro got the same deal on a '64 Jag mkII 3.8 - so it seems to be their standard offer.

There's only one slight issue - you must have a garage. If not, the insurance cover is third-part for the same price. I have a lock up, but not at my house, but the chap said that so long as the car spends most of it's time there, then you're ok.

If you can prove driving experience from another policy, you can insure this as a daily driver, no mileage limit or so on. Equally some insurers will give you a mirrored ncb on a second car, but you must ask. I have a car done this way.

Sorry, clarification: my 968 is on Classic with CN, and I have a separate 'normal' full ncb policy on the daily driver already.

Will try the First Ireland, AXA and FBD (I didn't know they did a classic policy..). Anyone tried Aviva ?

[EDIT] Scratch AXA - won't cover the 968 on classic, but would do 'ordinary' policy for Eur 860. Btw, he said classic cover now Eur 540 p.a.............either way, both much more than I'm paying now...... :( [/EDIT]

You could try the vintage crowd that advertise in the Irish magazine, can't remember what they are called. They will offer TP cover only, but cheap. My Alfa Spider is an 84, insured Comp, as a daily driver, using driving experience with Axa, less than €300 annual. No mileage restrictions.

2.0 Capri is about €200 with Hibernian TPFT with breakdown assist.
